An ink-jet ink contains at least a coloring material and a specific water-soluble organic solvent and has both excellent coloring property and excellent humidity resistance. The coloring material exhibits a small (9 or less) color difference ”E value which is determined by a method including a series of specific steps and is represented as the square root of (L 1 - L 2 ) 2 + (a 1 - a 2 ) + (b 1 - b 2 ) 2 . The specific water-soluble organic solvent has an evaporation rate X smaller than that of water and a moisture absorptivity Y, the values of X and Y satisfying the relation of Y ‰ 2.8X + 10. The content of the specific water-soluble organic solvent is 50 mass % or more of the total amount of water-soluble organic solvents contained in the ink.

The present invention aims to provide an ink jet black ink which can improve weatherability, optical density and sticking recovery property of nozzles of a recording head. According to the present invention, an ink jet black ink is provided which comprises at least a coloring material and a water-soluble organic solvent, wherein the coloring material is a compound represented by the following general formula (I) or a salt thereof, and the water-soluble organic solvent is a water-soluble organic solvent having a relative permittivity of from 30.0 or more to less than 70.0 at 20°C and capable of dissolving the compound represented by the following general formula (I) or a salt thereof, by 1.0 mass% or more at 25°C, and is in a content of 50.0 mass% or more with respect to the total content of all water-soluble organic solvents contained in the ink jet black ink.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a black ink for an ink jet which possesses preferable color as a black ink for an ink jet, can attain high ozone resistance, high image density and sticking recovery property, and can suppress the decomposition of the compound represented by the general formula (I) or salt thereof during long-term storage. According to the present invention, there is provided a black ink for an ink jet characterized by comprising at least a compound represented by the following general formula (I) or a salt thereof, characterized in that the black ink comprises at least one moisture-retaining nitrogen compound, and the pH of the ink and the pH of the ink after storing for 10 days in an environment at a temperature of 60°C are 9.5 or less.

An ink jet ink is disclosed which includes water, a water-soluble organic solvent and a coloring material and has excellent properties. The coloring material is a specific phthalocyanine derivative and is contained in a specific amount in the ink. The water-soluble organic solvent includes a specific amount of 2-pyrrolidone. In addition, a d 75 value is in a specific range where the d 75 value corresponds to 75% of a dispersion distance distribution, measured by a small angle X-ray scattering method, of molecular aggregates in the ink jet ink whose coloring material concentration is adjusted to 0.5 mass%.

An ink for ink jet recording that has excellent color development, has a high level of environmental gas resistance, and, further, can yield images having excellent bronze resistance. The ink comprises at least a colorant. The colorant is a compound represented by general formula (I) or its salt. The content (% by mass) of the colorant is not less than 3.0% by mass based on the total mass of the ink for ink jet recording. The dispersion distance d75 value, occupying 75% of a dispersion distance distribution of molecular aggregates in an ink prepared in such a manner that the concentration of the colorant in the ink forink jet recording is 3.0% by mass, as determined by a small angle X-ray scattering method is not less than 6.50 nm to not more than 7.10 nm.
