This invention provides an ink for ink jet recording that, even when an ink for ink jet recording containing a colorant having a buffer region in an ink working range is used to perform continuous printing for a long period of time, can suppress a deterioration (dissolution) on a liquid contact face in a heat generating part and can suppress the occurrence of disconnection in wiring for applying voltage to the heat generating part. The ink for ink jet recording is used in an ink jet recording apparatus provided with a recording head having a metal and/or metal oxide-containing heat generating part liquid contact face and has a colorant content (% by mass) of not less than 3% by mass based on the total mass of the ink for ink jet recording. The colorant has a buffer region in an ink working range. The ink further contains a compound represented by general formula (I) and/or a compound represented by general formula (II).

An ink for ink jet recording satisfying the following requirements (A) and (B) possesses excellent color development and moisture resistance. (A) A color difference E of 9 or less as judged by a method comprising the following steps (1) to (3). (1) The step of applying an ink containing a colorant, water, and a water soluble organic solvent, which has a lower evaporative rate X than water, has a moisture absorption Y (mass%) of not less than 20 and satisfies Y ≥ 2.8X + 10, and then superimposing an ink having the same composition as the above ink except for the use of water instead of the colorant. (2) The step of allowing the record to stand under the first and second conditions. (3) The step of judging the record in terms of a color difference (ΔE) represented by formula (1): wherein L1, a1 and b1 represent L, a and b of Lab color system before the second standing; and L2, a2 and b2 represent L, a and b of Lab color system after the second standing. Specifically disclosed is an inkjet black ink containing at least a colorant and water-soluble organic solvents which is characterized in that the colorant is composed of a compound represented by the general formula (I) below or a salt thereof, the relative dielectric constant of the ink is not less than 30.0 and less than 70.0 at 20°C, and the amount of water-soluble organic solvents capable of dissolving not less than 1.0 mass% of the compound represented by the general formula (I) below or a salt thereof at 25°C is not less than 50.0 mass% of the total water-soluble organic solvents contained in the inkjet black ink.
