An ink jet ink is disclosed which includes water, a water-soluble organic solvent and a coloring material and has excellent properties. The coloring material is a specific phthalocyanine derivative and is contained in a specific amount in the ink. The water-soluble organic solvent includes a specific amount of 2-pyrrolidone. In addition, a d 75 value is in a specific range where the d 75 value corresponds to 75% of a dispersion distance distribution, measured by a small angle X-ray scattering method, of molecular aggregates in the ink jet ink whose coloring material concentration is adjusted to 0.5 mass%.

An ink for ink jet recording that has excellent color development, has a high level of environmental gas resistance, and, further, can yield images having excellent bronze resistance. The ink comprises at least a colorant. The colorant is a compound represented by general formula (I) or its salt. The content (% by mass) of the colorant is not less than 3.0% by mass based on the total mass of the ink for ink jet recording. The dispersion distance d75 value, occupying 75% of a dispersion distance distribution of molecular aggregates in an ink prepared in such a manner that the concentration of the colorant in the ink forink jet recording is 3.0% by mass, as determined by a small angle X-ray scattering method is not less than 6.50 nm to not more than 7.10 nm.

A light ink-jet ink which has excellent coloring properties and can combine resistance to environmental gases with freedom from bronzing. The light ink-jet ink is used in combination with a deep ink-jet ink having a relatively high colorant content, and comprises water, a water-soluble organic solvent, and a colorant. The light ink-jet ink is characterized in that the deep ink-jet ink and the light ink-jet ink satisfy a specific requirement.

An ink for ink jet recording satisfying the following requirements (A) and (B) possesses excellent color development and moisture resistance. (A) A color difference E of 9 or less as judged by a method comprising the following steps (1) to (3). (1) The step of applying an ink containing a colorant, water, and a water soluble organic solvent, which has a lower evaporative rate X than water, has a moisture absorption Y (mass%) of not less than 20 and satisfies Y ≥ 2.8X + 10, and then superimposing an ink having the same composition as the above ink except for the use of water instead of the colorant. (2) The step of allowing the record to stand under the first and second conditions. (3) The step of judging the record in terms of a color difference (ΔE) represented by formula (1): wherein L1, a1 and b1 represent L, a and b of Lab color system before the second standing; and L2, a2 and b2 represent L, a and b of Lab color system after the second standing. (B) A content of the water soluble organic solvent satisfying Y ≤ 2.8X + 10 of not less than 50% by mass.

The coloring material exhibits a small (9 or less) color difference ”E value which is determined by a method including a series of specific steps and is represented as the square root of (L 1 - L 2 ) 2 + (a 1 - a 2 ) + (b 1 - b 2 ) 2 . The specific water-soluble organic solvent has an evaporation rate X smaller than that of water and a moisture absorptivity Y, the values of X and Y satisfying the relation of Y ‰ 2.8X + 10. The content of the specific water-soluble organic solvent is 50 mass % or more of the total amount of water-soluble organic solvents contained in the ink.
