Abstract: The present invention relates to data transmissions using a signal which, in base band, is formed of a succession of isochronous, non-overlapping, two-level signal elements of duration T able to take one of the four forms defined by the functions: +/- sign (sin 2 pi t DIVIDED T); +/- sign (cos 2 pi t DIVIDED T) The subject is a timing recovery circuit which includes a transition selection circuit 20 sorting, from the transitions of the signal received in base band, the transitions which are separated from those which immediately precede them by the duration of one signal element and a time base 10 which is synchronised with the transitions sorted by the selection circuit 20 and which delivers the recovered timing of the signal elements.

Abstract: A timing recovery circuit for synchronous data transmission using a signal which, in the baseband, is formed by a succession of two-level signal elements, without overlap, and of duration T, able to take one of the four forms defined by the functions: comprises a transition selection circuit. This circuit selects transitions in the received signal, in the baseband, separated from those which immediately precede them by a time-delay situated in an arbitrary range. This range brackets a symbol duration of between 3/4 and 5/4 times, exclusive, the duration of a signal element. A timebase which is synchronized on the transitions selected by the selection circuit delivers the signal element recovered timing.

Abstract: The method consists in using a frame alignment word decoder 75 and a prediction circuit 76 decoding a version of the alignment word having undergone a rotation of about half of its terms at the outputs of a first portion 71 of a shift register which receives as input 1 the string of data received and which is clocked by a clock signal generated by selecting the periods of the signal for timing the data string reproducing the distribution of the bits of an alignment word within a frame. This clock signal is formulated by a divider by twenty or twenty one 74 which assigns it systematically after a duration of about half a frame with a phase jump corresponding to the duration of a datum as long as an alignment word or its permuted version have not been recognised. The shift register includes two other stages 72, 73 used to allow accelerated loading of stage 71 with each phase jump of the clock signal.
