    Abstract: An oral care implement having a head that achieves an enhanced cleaning action during brushing. In one embodiment, the invention can be an oral care implement comprising: a handle; a head connected to the handle and comprising a base structure ( 130 ) having a front surface ( 131 ), a rear surface ( 132 ), an island protruding from the rear surface of the base structure, and a passageway extending through the base structure from the front surface of the base structure to a rear surface of the island; a resilient soft tissue cleanser ( 170 ) on the rear surface of the base structure, the resilient soft tissue cleanser comprising an aperture through which the island extends; a mass ( 180 ) of a first resilient material positioned within the passageway so that a first portion ( 181 ) of the mass protrudes from the front surface of the head and a second portion ( 182 ) of the mass protrudes from the island, the island isolating the resilient soft tissue cleanser from the mass; and a plurality of teeth cleaning elements ( 105 ).

    Abstract: An oral care implement (610) is provided having a handle (612) and a head (614) with tooth cleaning elements (618) extending from fixed pods (616, 620). Additional tooth cleaning elements (626) extend from one or more central pods (622, 624) suspended between the fixed pods (616, 620) via a bridge (636). The bridge may be formed from an elastomer and permit the one or more central pods (622, 624) to move from an initial position toward the head during use. The central pods (622, 624), the bridge (636) and outer portions of the fixed pods (616, 620) may be formed as a unitary structure.' When a single central pod is employed, a flexible section may be disposed in the middle of the central pod so that cleaning elements extending from either end of the central pod can move toward one another daring use.

    Abstract: An oral care implement including a handle and a head with a tongue cleanser. The tongue cleanser has at least one ridge which is at least as wide as it is high. In one preferred construction, the ridges are shaped so as to define a concave surface facing generally toward the handle.     Abstract: A toothbrush that uses light to deliver an oral care benefit such as the detection of plaque or the whitening of teeth. In one embodiment, dye is incorporated in a carrier that attaches to residual plaque on the tooth surface and is activated by the presence of ultraviolet radiation to create a fluorescent effect that would indicate the presence of plaque remaining on the teeth. In another embodiment, a toothpaste formulation contains ultraviolet brighteners as a whitening ingredient that have a whitening or bleaching effect when in contact with ultraviolet radiation. The activation of the brighteners preferably occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a UV source. In yet another embodiment, a toothpaste formulation contains an oxidizing agent as a whitening ingredient, the activation of which occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a source of light energy which includes LEDs in the bristle field.
