Abstract: The invention concerns a photocurable adhesive composition comprising, based on total weight of photopolymerizable monomers and/or oligomers of the composition: 5 to 60 wt % of at least one mono or polyacrylate monomer or oligomer thereof (A); 5 to 50 wt % of at least one thio(meth)acrylate monomer or oligomer thereof (B); and 20 to 50 wt % of at least one aromatic dimethacrylate monomer or oligomer thereof (C); with the proviso that the composition does not contain a brominated monofunctional acrylate.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method which consists in providing a composition of polymerisable monomers in the cavity of a mould with two parts assembled by an adhesive tape, in carrying out a first step which consists in pre-polymerising the composition until a self-supporting gel is obtained without allowing the adhesive tape to lose its adhesive properties, and a step which consists in post-polymerising the gel by applying a UV radiation or by heat treatment for simultaneously causing the tape to lose its adhesive properties depending on whether the adhesive tape loses its adhesive properties under the action of UV radiation or under the action of the heat. The invention is useful for making ophthalmic lenses.

Abstract: An optical adhesive product and a process for manufacturing an optical adhesive product, laminated film ensembles, and laminated lenses. The optical adhesive product includes a glyoxal water solution that is pH adjusted for use as an optical adhesive that demonstrates a wet peel force strength above about 6 Newtons. A water based polymer, such as PVOH, may be added to the adhesive system. According to the process, the glyoxal adhesive system is manufactured and utilized to laminate TAC-PVA-TAC films together to form a polar film ensemble. The polar film ensemble is laminated to an optical susbtrate and in the case of an ophthalmic lens, surfaced, coated and edged. The optical adhesive product avoids film separation in the polar TAC-PAV- TAC film ensemble during edging.

Abstract: The invention concerns a process for making a coated optical lens blank free of visible fining lines which comprises : (ix) providing an optical article having at least one fined but unpolished geometrically defined main face ; (x) providing a mold part having an internal and external surface; (xi) depositing on said main face of said optical article or on the internal surface of the mold part a requisit amount of a liquid curable coating composition ; (xii) moving relatively to each other the optical article and the mold part to either bring the coating composition into contact with the main face of the optical article or into contact with the internal face of the mold part; (xiii) applying pressure to the mold part to spread the liquid curable coating composition on said main face and form a uniform liquid coating composition layer onto the main face; (xiv) curing the liquid coating composition layer; (xv) withdrawing the mold part; and recovering the free of visible fining lines coated optical article.
