Abstract:
Differences in thermal expansion properties between integrated circuit chips, especially of gallium arsenide, and the dielectric substrates (especially diamond and aluminum nitride) on which said chips are mounted are accommodated by interposing between the substrate and the chip a base having diamond pedestals in combination with a material of higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the substrate, typically a metal such as copper or tungsten. The base may be integral with a diamond substrate or may be a shim interposed between the substrate and the chip.
Abstract:
A combined programmable gain and integrating amplifier comprises an operational amplifier (12) having a non-inverting input terminal coupled to a reference voltage. A plurality of capacitors (C1... C63) are selectively connectable in parallel between the inverting input terminal and the amplifier output terminal. At least one terminal of each capacitor is connected to the inverting input terminal. A plurality of controllable switches (X1... X63) are connected in series circuit between a corresponding one of the capacitors and the amplifier output terminal for coupling the capacitors in circuit between the inverting input terminal and the output terminal. In a first operational state, each of the switches connects the capacitors between the input and output terminals. In a second operational state, the switches connect selected ones of the capacitors to the reference voltage. Another controllable switch (M2) is connected in circuit between the inverting input terminal and the output terminal for selectively short-circuiting the capacitors in order to reset the amplifier integration function.
Abstract:
An apparatus enables digital data to be sent between first (12b) and second (12a) components that rotationally move with respect to each other about an axis (19). A transmitter (40) mounted on the first component (12b) produces an output signal that has a pulse whenever the digital data makes a state transmission line (51) which is attached to the first component (12b) and extends about the axis (19). A receive transmission line (57) is attached to the other component (12a) and curves about the axis (19) adjacent to the transmit element (51). A circuit (60) produces a state transition in a digital output signal whenever an electrical signal from the receive transmission line (57) transcends a reference level.

A method for brazing end rings (20) to rotor bars (12) for a squirrel cage rotor assembly (10) comprises assembling the rotor (10) in a brazing fixture (22) with a braze shim (16) between the rotor bars (12) and the end rings (20); preheating the rotor (10) and brazing fixture (22) to a temperature that is below the aged temperature of the rotor bars (12) and end rings (20) and which is sufficiently high so that the difference in thermal expansion of the rotor bars (12) and brazing fixture (22) applies a predetermined amount of pressure on the brazing joint such that after the joint is brazed and has cooled, a braze filler (16) having a predetermined thickness inches will bond the rotor bar end faces (18) to the end ring (20), and brazing each joint to bond the rotor bar end faces (18) to the end ring (20). A braze fixture (22) for maintaining a predetermined pressure on a squirrel cage rotor assembly (10) during the process of brazing rotor bars (12) to end rings (20) to form a brazed joint, which rotor assembly (10) includes rotor bars (12) disposed in a rotor core (14) and having their ends (18) positioned on braze shims (16) on end rings (20), comprises positioning means for positioning the rotor assembly in the apparatus; pressure means for applying a predetermined amount of pressure on the end rings (20), rotor bars (12) and braze shims (16) of the rotor assembly so that when the ends (18) of the rotor bars (12), braze shims (16) and end rings (20) are brazed to form a joint, the resulting brazed joint has a predetermined thickness.
Abstract:
A procedure is described for wet chemical surface modification of formed articles and substrates coated with or made of organopolysiloxanes: the articles formed were contacted with metal hydroxide solutions to tailor the binding capacity for ions, particularly metal ions, bivalent cations, organic macro anions, and organic macro cations, e.g. proteins. The procedure creates organopolysiloxane surfaces which are better wettable, have reduced surface resistance, are less sticky, are smoother and more biocompatible.

A low capacitance radiation detector comprises a monocrystalline silicon substrate heavily doped to N type conductivity with a more lightly doped N type conductivity epitaxial layer formed on the substrate. A plurality of heavily doped N type upper surface layer segments are formed in the epitaxial layer. A patterned region of the epitaxial layer, heavily doped to P type conductivity and in the shape of parallel stripes joined at each end by a respective stripe perpendicular to the parallel stripes, is formed in the epitaxial layer and situated between adjacent ones of the upper surface layer segments, with each stripe extending into the epitaxial layer deeper than, and separated from, the upper surface layer segments so as to form a minority charge carrier-collecting PN junction with the epitaxial layer. The parallel stripes are spaced apart from each other by a distance smaller than or comparable to the minority charge carrier recombination diffusion length for the epitaxial layer, and the epitaxial layer thickness is smaller than or comparable to the minority charge carrier recombination diffusion length. In a second embodiment, the epitaxial layer has beveled edges and the heavily doped N type upper surface layer segments formed in the epitaxial layer extend over the beveled edges.

The invention relates to a polymer mixture comprising A) a polyarylene sulphide, B) an elastomeric polymer having reactive groups which are capable of reacting with the polyarylene sulphide, the polymer mixture moreover comprising as constituent C) a metal salt of a fatty acid having a melting temperature lower than the compounding temperature of the polymer mixture. The presence of the metal salt C contributes to an improvement of the mechanical properties, in particular the ductility.
Abstract:
A high definition television receiver including analog and digital signal processing circuits (119, 150) receives (110, 112) an analog high definition television signal representative of digital television information. The received signal contains narrowband high priority information and low priority wideband information. An automatic gain control (AGC) signal is developed (160) from the received analog signal by means of a root-mean-square amplitude detector (166).

Abstract:
A monitoring system for an electrical power control system having a plurality of electrical components operable in electrically conductive and non-conductive states in response to command signals from a system controller. The controller is connected for receiving status signals indicative of the conductive and non-conductive states of selected ones of the electrical components. The monitoring system develops electrical signals representative of preselected conditions of preselected ones of the electrical components, combines the electrical signals with the status signals, and transmits the combined signals to the system controller. The system controller extracts the electrical signals from the combined signals for determining the state of the preselected conditions.
