Abstract: The novel triazoles have the formula (I) in which the symbols A, X, Z and n have the meaning given in Patent Claim 1 and R represents hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl group as in Patent Claim 6. The compounds of the formula (I) are prepared by reaction of compounds of the formula (II) with a mol of sodium azide, where a denotes 1 or 2 and Ar denotes optionally substituted phenyl. If a=1, then R denotes the radical (X)n-A-CH=CH-C6H4- and if a=2, then R denotes a stilbene, distyrylbenzene or distyryldiphenyl radical as a bridge member having two free valencies in the p,p'-position. Alkylation can be carried out after the reaction. The compounds of the formula (I) are suitable as optical brighteners.
