Abstract: Use of a water-dispersible polymer as binder in an aqueous filler composition which may or may not comprise, in addition to other polymeric binders, crosslinking agents and the customary additives, wherein the water-dispersible polymer is a polyurethane resin which contains building blocks derived from (A) polyisocyanates, (B) polyols having an average molecular weight Mn of at least 400, (C) low-molecular polyols if desired and, (D) compounds containing at least two groups reactive toward isocyanate groups and at least one group capable of forming anions, and (E) compounds which are monofunctional or contain active hydrogen of variable reactivity, these building blocks being always positioned at the chain end fo the polyurethane resin, and optionally (F) compounds which are other than (B), (C), (D) and (E) and contain at least two groups reactive toward NCO groups. The crosslinked filler coatings obtainable therefrom are distinguished, inter alia, by improved stone-chip resistance at low temperatures and by good intercoat adhesion.

Abstract: A water-dilutable (water-thinnable) two-component coating composition containing a) a polyisocyanate component comprising one or more organic polyisocyanates, and b) a polyurethane resin prepared by 1. reacting (A) polyisocyanates with (B) polyols having a mean molecular weight Mn of at least 400, (C) optionally low-molecular-weight polyols and (D) compounds containing at least two groups which are reactive towards isocyanate groups and at least one group which is capable of anion formation, to give a prepolymer containing free NCO groups, and 2. reacting the prepolymer formed in step 1 with at least one of the components: (E) low-molecular-weight polyols carrying no further groups which are reactive towards isocyanate groups, these compounds being employed in excess, (F) compounds which are monofunctional or contain active hydrogen of different reactivity and are different from (E), and optionally (G) compounds which are different from (B), (C), (D), (E) and (F) and contain at least two groups which are reactive with NCO groups. r

Abstract: An aqueous filler composition containing a polyester resin which is built up from the starting materials (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) or ester-forming derivatives thereof, where the sum of the reactants corresponds to 100 mol% and the ratio between the sum of the hydroxyl equivalents (eq of OH) and the sum of the carboxyl equivalents in the reactants is between 0.5 and 2.0, where (a) is at least one dicarboxylic acid which is not a sulpho or phosphorus monomer, (b) from 0 to 15 mol% of at least one difunctional sulpho or phosphono monomer whose functional groups are carboxyl or hydroxyl groups, containing at least one sulphonate or phosphonate group, (c) at least one difunctional compound which is derived from a glycol containing two -C(R)2-OH groups, (d) up to 40 mol% of a higher-functional compound (functionality > 2) whose functional groups comprise hydroxyl and/or carboxyl groups, and (e) from 0 to 20 mol% of a monofunctional carboxylic acid, where the radicals R in (c) may be, independently of one another, hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl or C6-C10-aryl, the amounts of free hydroxyl groups are between 30 and 350 milliequivalents of OH/100 g, preferably between 100 and 250 meq of OH/100 g, and the content of free neutralised and/or neutralisable acid groups, in particular sulphonic, phosphonic or carboxyl groups, is between 5 and 350 meq of acid groups/100 g, preferably between 9 and 120 meq of acid groups/100 g.

Abstract: Curable binders obtained by simultaneous reaction of A) urethanes or ureas, B) acrylic or methacrylic compounds containing hydroxyl groups, C) paraformaldehyde and D) if appropriate, polyols, wherein, in the case where no polyol D) is also reacted, the reaction is carried out in the presence of an acid ion exchanger, and in the case where a polyol D) is also reacted, the reaction is carried out in the presence of an acid ion exchanger or a strong acid. These binders are suitable as coating compositions which can be cured by electron beams or by UV light.
