    Abstract: An aqueous filler composition containing a polyester resin which is built up from the starting materials (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) or ester-forming derivatives thereof, where the sum of the reactants corresponds to 100 mol% and the ratio between the sum of the hydroxyl equivalents (eq of OH) and the sum of the carboxyl equivalents in the reactants is between 0.5 and 2.0, where (a) is at least one dicarboxylic acid which is not a sulpho or phosphorus monomer, (b) from 0 to 15 mol% of at least one difunctional sulpho or phosphono monomer whose functional groups are carboxyl or hydroxyl groups, containing at least one sulphonate or phosphonate group, (c) at least one difunctional compound which is derived from a glycol containing two -C(R)2-OH groups, (d) up to 40 mol% of a higher-functional compound (functionality > 2) whose functional groups comprise hydroxyl and/or carboxyl groups, and (e) from 0 to 20 mol% of a monofunctional carboxylic acid, where the radicals R in (c) may be, independently of one another, hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl or C6-C10-aryl, the amounts of free hydroxyl groups are between 30 and 350 milliequivalents of OH/100 g, preferably between 100 and 250 meq of OH/100 g, and the content of free neutralised and/or neutralisable acid groups, in particular sulphonic, phosphonic or carboxyl groups, is between 5 and 350 meq of acid groups/100 g, preferably between 9 and 120 meq of acid groups/100 g.

    Abstract: An aqueous coating composition for the manufacture of primers or of filler coatings, which contains at least one water-dispersible binder resin, as well as crosslinking agents and, if appropriate, customary additives, characterised in that the water-dispersible binder resin is at least partly a polyurethane resin which contains components which are derived from (A) polyisocyanates, (B) polyols having an average molecular weight Mn of at least 400, (C) if appropriate low molecular weight polyols, (D) compounds which contain at least two groups which are reactive with isocyanate groups and at least one group capable of anion formation, (E) polyols which carry no further groups reactive with isocyanate groups, where these components (E) are each located on the chain end of the polyurethane resin, if appropriate (F) compounds which are monofunctional or contain active hydrogen of differing reactivity and are different from (E), where these components (F) are also located on the chain end of the polyurethane resin and, if appropriate (G) compounds which are different from (B), (C), (D), (E) and (F) and contain at least two groups reactive with NCO groups. The filler coatings obtainable therefrom are distinguished, inter alia, by improved resistance to flying stones at low temperatures and by good intermediate layer adhesion, while corresponding primers show improved protection against corrosion.

    Abstract: Use of a water-dispersible polymer as binder in an aqueous filler composition which may or may not comprise, in addition to other polymeric binders, crosslinking agents and the customary additives, wherein the water-dispersible polymer is a polyurethane resin which contains building blocks derived from (A) polyisocyanates, (B) polyols having an average molecular weight Mn of at least 400, (C) low-molecular polyols if desired and, (D) compounds containing at least two groups reactive toward isocyanate groups and at least one group capable of forming anions, and (E) compounds which are monofunctional or contain active hydrogen of variable reactivity, these building blocks being always positioned at the chain end fo the polyurethane resin, and optionally (F) compounds which are other than (B), (C), (D) and (E) and contain at least two groups reactive toward NCO groups. The crosslinked filler coatings obtainable therefrom are distinguished, inter alia, by improved stone-chip resistance at low temperatures and by good intercoat adhesion.
