    Abstract: 1282056 Thermoplastic dressing FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 2 Dec 1969 [2 Dec 1968] 58790/69 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions A5 and B5] A thermoplastic dressing comprises (a) a textile fabric coated on at least one side and/or impregnated with at least one copolymer of trioxane with one or more cyclic formals of the general formula: where the sum of the integers x, y is 0 or 1, the molar ratio of formal:trioxan being 0.7- 2.8:1 and the melting point range of the copolymer being from 40‹-80‹C and (b) at least one separating film or sheet of paper coated with a silicone resin on one or both sides. The copolymer may be applied to the textile by extrusion to a thickness of 1-5 mm or by impregnating individual fibres before making the textile. Suitable copolymers have a reduced specific viscosity of 0.3-1.5 Al/g (measured at 140‹C in butyro lactone at 0.5g/100 ml). The textile may comprise 1-5% weight of the coated fabric and may weigh 10-100 g/m 2 . Synthetic or natural fibres e.g. cotton, wool, cellulose acetate, polyesters, polyacrylonitrile may be used in the textiles. The release paper may suitably comprise a coating of poly (dimethylsiloxane) in an amount 1-20% wt. of paper. The dressing is applied in a heat softened state and then allowed to solidify.

    Abstract: Oxymethylene copolymer having heat and hydrolysis resistant terminal groups is prepared by heating the polymers present in a liquid phase, whereby a thermal degradation of the unstable terminal groups takes place. The degradation is advantageously effected in the presence of a calcium or magnesium salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid of low molecular weight. The oxymethylene copolymers are suitable as engineering plastic for preparing semi-finished products and finished products.
