Abstract:
1. PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF A THERMOPLASTIC MOLDING COMPOSITION ON THE BASIS OF POLY(OXYMETHYLENES), WHICH COMPRISES MIXING (A) FROM 99.9 TO 80 WEIGHT PERCENT OF A LINEAR POLY (OXYMETHYLENE), WHICH MAY CONTAIN UP TO 20 WEIGHT PERCENT, RELATIVE TO THE SAID POLY(OXYMETHYLENE), OF OXYALKYLENE GROUPS HAVING FROM 2 TO 8 ADJACENT CARBON ATOMS, AND (B) FROM 0.01 TO 20 WEIGHT PERCENT OF A POLY(OXYMETHYLENE) CONTAINING FROM 0.1 TO 30 WEIGHT PERCENT, RELATIVE TO THE SAID POLY(OXYMETHYLENE), OF POLYETHER SEGMENTS DERIVED FROM CYCLIC ETHERS HAVING 3 TO 5 RINGMEMBERS AND HAVING A NUMBER AVERAGE MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF AT LEAST 500, AND UP TO 20 WEIGHT PERCENT OF OXYALKYLENE GROUPS HAVING FROM 2 TO 8 ADJACENT CARBON ATOMS, EACH OF THE COMPONENTS BEING IN A PULVERULENT OR GRANULATED FORM AT A TEMPERATURE BELOW 100*C., AND SUBSEQUENTLY MELTING AND HOMOGENIZING THE MIXTURE IN A MIXING DEVICE AT A TEMPERATURE OF FROM 150* TO 250*C., AND THEN REMOVING IT FROM THE MIXING DEVICE.
Abstract:
Oxymethylene polymers (POM) are obtained in a granular form, by cooling a POM solution or dispersion, whose temperature is above the sintering temperature of the POM, to a temperature slightly below the sintering temperature of the POM, and extracting from the suspension obtained only those POM particles which show a grain diameter of more than 70 mu m. As solvent or dispersing agent as well as precipitating and cooling agent there is used a mixture of methanol and water with a methanol content of at least 75% by weight. The POM obtained is suitable as engineering plastic material for the manufacture of shaped articles having improved mechanical properties.
Abstract:
of the disclosure: Granular oxymethlene polymers are prepared by cooling a solution or dispersion of an oxymethylene polymer, the temperature of the said solution of dispersion polymer, to a temperature just below the said sintering temperature. As dissolving or dispersing agent there is used a mixture of methanol and water. The cooling of the said solution of dispersion is effected in two stages while using a liquid cooling agent or a cooling device. After precipitation the coarse-granular polymer is separated from the fine-granular portion. It is suitable as engineering plastic for preparing molded articles.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic molding composition is composed of a linear poly(oxymethylene) and a graft copolymer the side chains of which consist essentially of oxymethylene groups. The said graft copolymer acts as a nucleating agent; its effectiveness is dependent on its amount, molecular weight and degree of grafting. Molded articles made of said composition show improved mechanical properties.
Abstract:
Oxymethylene copolymer having heat and hydrolysis resistant terminal groups is prepared by heating the polymers present in a liquid phase, whereby a thermal degradation of the unstable terminal groups takes place. The degradation is advantageously effected in the presence of a calcium or magnesium salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid of low molecular weight. The oxymethylene copolymers are suitable as engineering plastic for preparing semi-finished products and finished products.
