    Abstract: A thermoplastic molding composition is composed of a linear poly(oxymethylene) and a graft copolymer the side chains of which consist essentially of oxymethylene groups. The said graft copolymer acts as a nucleating agent; its effectiveness is dependent on its amount, molecular weight and degree of grafting. Molded articles made of said composition show improved mechanical properties.

A thermoplastic moulding composition comprises a mixture of (a) a linear saturated polyester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and optionally up to 5 mol. per cent of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, with a saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol; (b) a solid inert inorganic nucleating agent of particle size less than 5Á in an amount of from 0.05 to 3% by weight of the polyester; and (c) an epoxide of the general formula in which R represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or alkaryl radical which contains one or more epoxide groups and optionally contains one or more ether linkages, and which epoxide is incorporated in an amount of from 0.01 to 2% by weight of the polyester. The polyester (a) may optionally contain units of hydroxycarboxylic acids, and the moulding composition may also contain a paraffin wax or other hydrocarbon wax in an amount of from 0.01 to 1% by weight of the polyester. Polyester (a) is preferably polyethylene terephthalate or poly-(oyclohexane - 1,4 - dimethylol terephthalate), the former optionally containing up to 5 mol. per cent of isophthalic acid, naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid or adipic acid and/or up to 30 mol. per cent of 2,2-dimethyl-propane-diol-1,3 or butane diol-1,4. Nucleating agent (b) may be an alkaline earth metal carbonate (e.g. dolomite), a metal oxide (e.g. TiO 2 or Al 2 O 3 ) or powdered glass. Suitable epoxides (c) are the diglycidyl ethers of ethylene glycol, butanediol-1,4, hexanediol - 1,6, and 1,4 - dimethylolcyclohexane, also 1,1,1 - trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether, the diglycidyl ether of p, p 1 -dihydroxy-2,2-diphenylpropane, 1 - vinylcyclohexene - (3) diepoxide and hexadiene-1,5-diepoxide.
