Abstract: Unsaturated polyurethanes containing from 20 to 80 % by weight of polyethylene glycol units, obtainable by reacting a) at least one organic polyisocyanate, b) an unsaturated fatty alcohol, a polyalkylene glycol ether thereof or a hydroxyl-containing ester of unsaturated acids, c) one or more diols additionally containing at least one further hydroxyl group or carboxyl group, and d) a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight in the range from 750 to 10,000, with observance of an NCO/OH equivalent ratio, based on all starting components a) to d), of from 0.7 : 1 to 1.2 : 1. These unsaturated polyurethanes are used as reactive emulsifiers for the preparation of dispersions of hydrophobic synthetic resins which can be cured by means of free radicals and/or oxidatively.

Abstract: Acid-modified polyesters and their use in stoving enamels Acid-modified polyesters obtained by reacting (a) from 20 to 60, preferably 30-50, mol% of at least one dicarboxylic acid, (b) from 3 to 30, preferably 5-20, mol% of a dihydroxy alkanecarboxylic acid, (c) from 10 to 60, preferably 20-50, mol% of a diol, (d) from 0 to 30 mol% of a polyalcohol having more than two OH groups or of a polycarboxylic acid, and (e) from 0 to 20, preferably up to 10, mol% of a mono carboxylic acid, the ratio of the sum of the hydroxyl equivalents to the sum of the carboxyl equivalents in the reactants being between 0.5 and 2.0, the quantities of free hydroxyl groups in the end product being between 30 and 350 mmol of hydroxyl groups per 100 g of solid resin, preferably between 100 and 250 mmol of hydroxyl groups per 100 g of solid resin, and the content of free, neutralized and/or neutralizable acid groups being between 5 and 350 mmol of acid groups per 100 g of solid resin, preferably between 9 and 120 mmol of acid groups per 100 g of solid resin.

Abstract: Water-dilutable (water-thinnable), two-component coating composition containing 1) a polyisocyanate component and 2) a polyester resin built up from the starting materials (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) or ester-forming derivatives thereof, where the ratio between the total of the hydroxyl equivalents and the total of the carboxyl equivalents in the reactants is between 1:0.5 and 1:2.0, where (a) is at least one dicarboxylic acid which is not a sulphomonomer, (b) is from 0 to 15 mol% of at least one difunctional sulpho or phosphonomonomer whose functional groups are carboxyl and/or hydroxyl groups, containing at least one sulphonate or phosphonate group, (c) is at least one glycol, (d) is from 0 to 40 mol% of a higher-functional compound (functionality > 2) whose functional groups comprise hydroxyl and/or carboxyl groups, and (e) is from 0 to 20 mol% of a monofunctional carboxylic acid, where the amounts of free hydroxyl groups are between 30 and 350 milliequivalents of OH/100 g, and the content of free neutralised and/or neutralisable acid groups is between 5 and 350 meq/100 g. These coating compounds are particularly suitable for the production of primers, fillers, topcoats and single-coat finishes.

Also claimed are (i) water-dispersible mixts. (II) of radically-curable, unsatd. gp.-contg. resins contg. (A) 50-95 pts. wt. non-water-dispersible unsatd. synthetic resin(s) with an average mol. wt. (Mn) of 500-10,000 and (B) 5-50 pts. wt. (I); (ii) aq. coating materials contg. a radically- and/or oxidatively-curable mixt. (II) as binder, and opt. other conventional paint components and additives.
