Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low cost system which can safely perform data control through the use of electronic watermark technology by controlling data according to a control rule, having a token or control flag defined in advance. SOLUTION: In a step 800, it is checked from distributed data whether or not there is a control flag(CF) embedded by using electronic watermark technology. When no CF is detected, unrestricted control, e.g., duplication, video- recording, reproduction, etc., are performed. When a CF is detected, it is determined in a next step 820 whether or not there is an added token. When the result of the step 820 is NO, data control is inhibited. Namely, no duplication, video-recording, reproduction, etc., is done and the process is ended as it is. When the result of the step 820 is YES, the data control (duplication, video- recording, reproduction, etc.), by the control rule having a token or CF defined in advance is performed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new system capable of supplying authentication information in a form which is inseparable from an image data. SOLUTION: An image is halved and authentication information to hide in one image is obtained from the other image itself. Objective image data photographed by a digital camera is divided into an area D1 for generating a hush value and an area D2 for hiding a hush value H. A digest-calculating part calculates H from data of D1 and ciphers it by a secret key different for each digital camera, etc., to hide D2 , hiding can be executed by operating a pixel value in a real space or a frequency space to a degree of not being recognized visually. In D2 , additional information such as a time stamp, positional information of GPS can be hidden before hiding data from D1 .

Abstract: In order to hide message information (m) in media information (M), the frequency transform of the message information (m) and the media information (M) are performed, and frequency spectra f1 and f2 are obtained. Next, from the frequency spectrum f2 of the message information (m), a region containing feature frequency components representative of the features of the message information (m) in real space is extracted as the base region B. Then, n copies of the base region B are generated, and in frequency space, the n copies are dispersedly arranged. Also, by making the frequency components other than that equal to zero, a frequency spectrum f3 is generated as intermediate information. Finally, the frequency spectrum f3 and the frequency spectrum f1 are added, and by performing the inverse frequency transform of the result, the message information (m) can be hidden in the media information (M).

Abstract: It is one object of the present invention to prevent embedded verification information from being lost even when a quantization process is performed after verification information has been embedded. A pre-embedding portion 32 converts a image data value so that quantized values not changing by error introduced through the embedding process. A hash value calculator 300 calculates a hash value using image data and key information, and a hash value embedding portion 302 embeds the hash value in the image data. An output format converter 304 quantizes the image data in which the hash value is embedded, and generates JPEG data.

Abstract: It is one object of the present invention to provide a method and system for embedding an electronic watermark directly in an MPEG stream. ÄConstitutionÜ An intra-macroblock of an I-frame or of a P or B-frame is detected in an MPEG stream, and following the detection of an intra-macroblock of the I-frame or of the P or B-frame, data for one macroblock are extracted from the MPEG stream and buffered. An embedding pattern is embedded in the buffered macroblock without changing the length of VLC, and the resultant macroblock is returned to the MPEG stream. More specifically, a DC factor is extracted from the buffered macroblock, and a pseudorandom number is generated to produce an embedding pattern. Then, whether the bit length of the DC factor will not be changed by embedding the obtained embedded pattern is determined. When the bit length of the DC factor not be changed, the embedding pattern is embedded in the buffered macroblock. When the bit length will be changed, whether 1/2 of the embedding pattern can be embedded is determined. If possible, 1/2 of the embedded pattern is embedded in the macroblock.

Abstract: In providing a system that can manage access to data to effectively prevent illegal access to the data or the like, there is provided a system for embedding access management information that prepares management information for managing access to the data, and embeds the management information in the data through data transformation without changing amount of data. In managing access to data, there is provided a method that extracts management information embedded in the data through data deformation without changing amount of data, and manages access to the data according to the extracted management information. There is also provided a method for changing management of access to the data according to the type of medium in which the data is stored (RAM or ROM). The management information further contains information for controlling recording of the data, reception of the data, playback of the data, interference of output of the data, duplication history of the data, or modification of the management information. The access management method can prevent illegal duplication of data or the like, and can effectively protect a work.

A data hiding method in which media data is expressed as a media array while message data is expressed as a message array so that the array elements of the message array can be dispersively hidden in the message array based on a state values specifying a particular array element of the media array, comprises the steps of: (a) determining the j-th (j ≥ 0) state value Sj; (b) determining (j + 1)-th state value Sj+1 based on the j-th state value, the array element of the media array indicated by the j-th state value, and the array element of the message array; and (c) hiding data with respect to the array element of the media array indicated by the (j + 1)-th state value Sj+1.
