    Abstract: In order to present in advance a security hole relative to a data hiding technique in a plurality of contents a method is provided whereby an embedding process is performed by using a frame pattern (mark) that is composed of multiple embedded block patterns comprising several different types whereby the embedding process is varied in accordance with the time and the frame. This can be achieved by mixing at random several types of frame patterns having different arrangements of block patterns, or changing at random a range in which a block pattern is embedded. To detect an embedded mark a plurality of patterns that are to be detected in contents are processed in parallel, if as a result of detection there is a reaction it is ascertained that a mark is present. To trace an illegal process an electronic fingerprint is obtained either by entering a false detection mark in a detector or by using a random sync signal for an embedding detector.

    Abstract: It is intended to make it possible to properly certify who is a genuine owner, a nd to inhibit deterioration of image quality of media information to which the embedding opera tion is performed by adaptively determining amount of the operation for characteristic v alues such as pixel values. The invention provides a data hiding method for embedding messa ge data into media data comprising the steps of obtaining a secondary key by inputting a key having a predetermined value to a specified function; determining hiding positio ns in which the message data will be embedded according to the obtained secondary key, and selecting one of plural hiding functions according to the secondary key so that the selected hiding function is used for each of the determined hiding positions; and embeddi ng the message data into each of the determined hiding positions according to the selec ted hiding function corresponding to the hiding position.

    Abstract: The invention provides a method to extract embedded information without providin g original media data as information, and to extract the information with relative ly low calculation cost. A data hiding method is provided for embedding information in dicating a specific meaning into a media array expressing media data. The media array incl udes a plurality of array elements. The method includes the steps of: (a) preparing a pattern array having a plurality of array elements, the pattern array having at least a positive unit value and a negative unit value, and the sum tot al of the positive and negative unit values being zero; (b) specifying (N) number of hiding regions in the media array, the hiding regi on having a size corresponding to that of the pattern array; (c) determining an amount of operation for each of the array elements according to the locationally corresponding positive or negative unit value with respect t o one of the hiding regions, by referring to a hiding rule providing the correspondence betwe en the meaning of information and an application of the pattern array to the hiding reg ion; (d) adding the determined amount of operation to each of the array elements wit h respect to the hiding region; and (e) performing the steps (c) to (d) with respect to the (N) number of the hidin g regions so that information is embedded into (N) number of the hiding regions.
