    Abstract: An apparatus for code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless communication comprising a receiver configured to receive a CDMA signal that includes a desired traffic signal and a second signal, the desired traffic signal being spread with a desired traffic spreading code and the second signal being spread with a second spreading code; means for generating a second signal cancellation component including means for generating a second signal strength by despreading the CDMA signal based on the second spreading code; means for generating a second signal cancellation factor by selectively combining the second signal spreading code and the desired traffic spreading code; and means for combining the second signal strength and the second signal cancellation factor to generate the second signal cancellation component; means for generating a despread desired traffic signal by despreading the CDMA signal based on the desired traffic spreading code; and means for combining the despread desired traffic signal and the second signal cancellation component to cancel second signal noise from the despread desired traffic signal.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a spread spectrum transmitter comprising a spread spectrum encoder for encoding digital data to produce a spread spectrum signal and means for transmitting said signal, characterized in that the spread spectrum encoder includes a code generator incorporating an apparatus for generating complex four-phase code division multiple access (CDMA) codes, the apparatus comprising: a plurality of flip flops, an accumulator having a first input for receiving an output from said plurality of flip flops and a second input for receiving a quotient of a parameter M divided by a parameter N, wherein M and N are integers and wherein M is relatively prime to N; said accumulator combines data received via said first and second inputs and outputs the combined data to said flip flops; an extractor extracting a first bit and a second bit from the flip flops; and means for converting the extracted first bit and second bit to I and Q values.

    Abstract: A multicellular communications system where transmission between a roving subscriber and multiple base station transceivers is maintained throughout the territory. Each mobile subscriber unit has global code seeds for the entire communications system or an updated neighbor list and continuously searches to access available cell base stations while maintaining a communication link with one base station. Candidate cell base stations are interrogated and communicated with. The candidate base station that requires less transmitting energy from the mobile subscriber unit is closely monitored. When the mobile subscriber unit can successfully communicate with less transmit power than currently required by the present base station, the mobile subscriber unit is handed off to the candidate base station transceiver.
