CONSTITUTION: (A) 4W12C α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride) such a maleic anhydride, fumaric acid, etc. and (B) 8W40C alkene such as an α-olefin, internal olefin, etc. are subjected to addition reaction in a solvent or in the absence of a solvent at normal temperature W 300°C, and, if necessary, hydrogenated, to give a substituted succinic acid (or salt) containing an alkenyl or alkyl group, which is used as a surface active agent. Preferably 0.1W10pts.wt. of the surface active agent is added to (C) 100pts.wt. mixture of copolymerizable monomers such as acrylonitrile, etc. containing 1W50wt% α-methylstyrene, which is subjected to emulsion polymerization by the use of a radical initiator, to give the aimed copolymer. PURPOSE:To obtain an aq. emulsion of a resin with no foambility, high surface tension and excellent water resistance by adding water to a reaction product obtd. by soln.-polymerizing a monomer mixture contg. a specified monomer and a fluorinated monomer and distilling a solvent out. CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixture consisting of 0.5-60wt.% monomer (A) having a salt-forming group or a polyalkylene oxide group and a radical- polymerizable double bond, 5-99.5wt.% fluorinated monomer (B) having a radical- polymerizable double bond and 0-94.5wt.% monomer (C) which is different from monomers (A) and (B) and has a radical-polymerizable double bond is soln.- polymerized in an alcohol or ketone solvent. After, if necessary, a neutralizing agent is added to the obtd. reaction product, water is added thereto and the alcohol or ketone solvent is distilled out therefrom to obtain an aimed aq. emulsion.

PURPOSE:To obtain the title dispersion of high surface tension with reduced foaming, and high water resistance and high water and oil repulsion, by seed polymerization of vinyl monomers in the presence of an aqueous emulsion of a fluorine-containing resin of fine particle size. CONSTITUTION:The seed polymerization of vinyl monomers such as (meth)- acrylates, vinyl esters, or vinyl ethers in an amount of 20 to 99.8wt.% is conducted in the presence of an aqueous emulsion of a fluorine-containing resin containing 5 to 95wt.% of fluorine containing monomer units in which emulsion particles have an average size of 0.001 to 0.2mu preferably 0.001 to 0.05mu in an amount of 0.2 to 80wt.% based on the solid parts to give the subject dispersion. The aqueous emulsion is preferably produced by copolymerizing a radically polymerizable, unsaturated fluorine-containing monomer, a surface active vinyl monomer in an alcohol or ketone solvent, combining the product with water and distilling off the solvent.
