    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a polyether polymer excellent in hue and useful as e.g. a starting material for cosmetics by bringing a polyether polymer derived from a polyepihalohydrin into contact with a specified compound. CONSTITUTION: Nitrogenous groups are introduced into a polyepihalohydrin comprising repeating units of formula I (wherein V is a halogen; and m has an average of 10-1,500) to obtain a polyether polymer comprising repeating units represented by formula II [wherein Y is a group of formula III or IV (wherein R and R are each a 1-20C (hydroxy) alkyl or alkenyl; and Z is a 1-20C (hydroxy) alkylene)] and bringing this polymer into contact with a boron hydride compound. The decolorization reaction of the polymer with the boron hydride compound is carried out in a solution. The solvents used are desriably alcohols and water, particularly desirably water. The boron hydride compound is particularly desirably sodium boron hydride.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title surfactant having excellent properties as a cationic surfactant and mildly acting on the skin or the like by reacting a specified polyamine compound with a poly(N-acylalkyleneimine) obtained by a specified preparative process. CONSTITUTION:A polyamine compound having at least two basic nitrogen atoms in the molecule desirably a compound of formula I [wherein R2, R3, R5 and R6 are each H, 1-3C (un)saturated hydrocarbyl, 1-3 C hydroxyalkyl; R2 and R3, R4 or R5 may be combined with each other to form a ring; R4 is a bivalent group comprising an (un)saturated hydrocarbon which may contain O, S, N or halogen; and k is 1-5], is reacted with a poly(M-acylalkyleneimine) obtained by polymerizing a cyclic imino ether compound of formula II (wherein R1 is H, 1-22 C alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl; and n is 2 or 3) through ring opening to obtain a cationic surfactant. The obtained surfactant excels not only in the characteristic ability to soften the fiber or the hair but also in the prevention of skin sensitization, antistatic properties, non-irritativeness to the skin and is therefore highly safe.

CONSTITUTION:A (substituted) 2-oxazoline based compound (e.g. 2-oxazoline or 2-methyl-2-oxazoline) or 2-oxazine based compound (e.g. 2--oxazine or 2- methyl-2-oxazine) is polymerized in the presence of a polymerization initiator (e.g. dimethyl sulfate) in a fatty acid ester (preferably propyl formate, methyl acetate or ethyl propionate) having 30-170 deg.C, preferably 50-120 deg.C boiling point as a polymerization solvent to provide the objective polymer.

SOLUTION: This humectant is obtained by including a polyether represented by the formula [X]m-[Y]n [X is represented by formula I or the like; R1 to R3 are each H, methyl or ethyl; R4 is H or a 1-32C hydrocarbon; (a) is 1 or 2; Y is a group derived from a monomer copolymerizable with an epoxide represented by formula II or the like; m/(m+n) is 0.2-1, with the proviso that (m+n) is >=12]. The above polyether is preferably contained in an amount of 0.1-5 wt.% based on the whole composition in a cosmetic and further preferably contained in an amount of 0.2-5 wt.% based on the whole composition in a detergent composition. The above polyether is obtained by polymerizing, e.g. glycidol in the presence of a catalyst such as samarium tris(tetramethylheptanedionate).
