Abstract: A finely powdered polymer latex in the rodlike form having a major axis of from 0.1 to 100 microns and a minor axis of below 1/3 times the major axis. When the particles are dispersed in water at a concentration of 15wt%, the thixotropy index, η3/η30 is not less than 1.5.The polymer powder of the above size and configuration is useful in various fields including paint binders, diagnostic means and cosmetics.The polymer latex is prepared by solubilizing a polymerizable monomer in rod-shaped micelles, and polymerizing the monomer while keeping the rod-shaped micelle structure.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition by blending a raw material rubber with a wax and/or oils and fats, capable of providing a rubber excellent in gripping properties in freezing or to a frozen surface, useful as a tread part of studless tire, etc. SOLUTION: This rubber composition is obtained by blending (A) 100 pts.wt. of a raw material rubber with 0.1-40 pts.wt. of (B) a wax and/or (C) oils and fats, preferably further (D) a blowing agent (e.g. azodicarbonamide, etc.). The component B is preferably a ketene dimer [e.g. one shown by formula I (R and R are each a 10-30C alkyl or alkenyl), etc., such as palmityl ketene dimer, etc.] or a dialkyl ketene [e.g. one shown by formula II (R and R are each a 11-31C alkyl or alkenyl), etc., palmitone, etc.]. The component C is preferably a triglyceride [e.g. one shown by formula III (R to R are each a 11-31C alkyl or alkenyl), etc., tripalmitin, etc.].

Abstract: PURPOSE: To impart superior liq. repellency to a metallic surface by an easy operation by previously imparting a finely rugged structure to the surface to be coated with a liq.-repellent material and making the surface hydrophilic so that the contact angle to water is regulated to a specified value or below. CONSTITUTION: The whole or a part of a hydrophilic metallic surface having a finely rugged structure and =3cm per 1cm of the rugged structure when seen on a level. The upper limit of the surface area is preferably because an excessively large surface area reduces the strength of the metallic surface. In order to effectively use the entire actual surface of the rugged structure, the contact rate of the rugged surface, that is, the contact area of the rugged structure at the time of bringing a smooth rigid body into contact with the rugged surface is preferably regulated to per 1cm of the surface of the rigid body.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a promoter containing, as active ingredient, an alkyl glyceryl ether, high in safety to the skin and capable of promoting the percutaneous absorbability of the active ingredient. CONSTITUTION: This promoter contains, as active ingredient, 0.01-90wt.% of a compound of the formula (R is a 8-36C alkyl or alkenyl; X and X are each H or a residue resulted by removing one OH group from pentaerythritol, one or both of them being such residues). This promoter is obtained by appropriately mixing a percutaneous absorbent with a medicinal ingredient used in conventional skin preparations for external use such as analgesic/anti-inflammatory agents, hormone preparations, antimycotic agents and vitamin preparations followed by formulating the mixture in a base pref. such as a cream preparation, ointment preparation, gel preparation, lotion preparation, emulsion, or adhesive tape preparation. The medicinal ingredient to be used is 0.001-50 pts.wt. per pt.wt. of the promotor. Even lower concentrations of the medicinal ingredient have pharmacological effect comparable to the case with conventional products, thus reducing the side effects of the medicinal ingredient.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a coating composition which gives a film capable of maintaining an excellent water repellency over a long period of time by using as the constituent a wax, oil or fat each having a melting point higher than the service environmental temperature. CONSTITUTION: This composition contains a wax, oil or fat each having a melting point higher than the service environmental temperature, or a mixture thereof. As the wax, oil or fat to be used, those having a melting point of at least 40 deg.C, especially at least 50 deg.C, are desirable, considering the usual service environment. To obtain good water repellency, it is desirable that the acyl groups in the wax, oil or fat are saturated. The acyl groups wherein a part or all of the hydrogen atoms thereof is substituted by fluorine atoms are also allowable. As the wax, particularly palmitylketene dimer and myristylketene dimer are preferably used. As the oil or fat, a triglyceride of the formula (wherein R , R and R are each an 11-31C linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl) is preferably used, each of the R , R and R being preferably an alkyl from the viewpoint of improving the water repellency of the composition.
