Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject dispersion excellent in long-term storage stability and environmental stability by using a polymer dispersion obtained from a specific raw material as a dispersion. SOLUTION: This color material dispersion comprises (A) a water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble coloring material, (B) a polymer dispersion obtained by subjecting a sulfonated product obtained by sulfonating creosote oil to formalin condensation and neutralizing the condensed product and (C) a water-soluble medium. When concentrated sulfuric acid is used as the sulfonating agent in preparing the component B, creosote oil is charged into a reactor having an agitator and then, concentrated sulfuric acid is added thereto at 150-170 deg.C and sulfonation is preferably carried out for 1-2hr. Weight average molecular weight of the component B is preferably 2,000 to 50,000. It is preferable to include 15-30wt.% component A, 1.5-30wt.% component B and 50-83wt.% component C in the objective dispersion. The weight ratio of the components A/B is preferably (100/100) to (100/30). Pigment, oil-soluble dye, etc., is preferably used as the component A.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-base pigment ink excellent in shelf stability, and also prevented from clogging at a printer head and excellent in delivery stability particularly when used as an ink for ink jet recording by using a specified polymeric dispersant. SOLUTION: This ink comprises mainly a pigment, a polymeric dispersant, a water-soluble solvent and water, and the polymeric dispersant used comprises a copolymer obtained by using 10-50wt.% polyalkyene glycol mono(meth)acrylate monomer represented by formula I (wherein R is H or methyl; R is a 2-4C alkylene; R is H or a 3-4C alkenyl; and n is 2 to 300) and 50-90wt.% (meth) acrylic monomer represented by formula II (R is H or methyl; and X is H, a monovalent metal, a divalent metal, ammonium or an organic amine), or a copolymer obtained by neutralizing this copolymer with an alkaline substance.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a process for producing an ink for ink jet recording whereby a pigment can be dispersed with an improved dispersibility into particles with uniform particle sizes by subjecting a pigment dispersion to ultrasonic treatment at specified output and frequency. SOLUTION: A pigment dispersion contg. a pigment, a polymeric dispersant, a water-soluble solvent, and water is subjected to ultrasonic treatment at an output of 250-3,000W and a frequency of 20-50kHz to disperse the pigment. The polymeric dispersant used id pref. a (meth)acrylic acid deriv. copolymer, esp, one obtd. by copolymerizing a monomer represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkyl; m1 is 0-2; AO is 2-3C oxyalkylene; n is 1-300; and X is H or lower alkyl) and a monomer (including its acid anhydride) represented by formula II [R3 to R5 are each H, lower alkyl, or (CH2 )m2 COOM2 (wherein M1 and M2 are each H, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, or an amine, and m2 is 0-2].

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the long-term dispersion stability and storage stability at high temps. of water-base pigment ink mainly comprising a carbon black, a polymeric dispersant, a water-soluble solvent, and water by specifying the volatile content of the carbon black. SOLUTION: A carbon black having a volatile content of 9-25wt.%, pref. 9.5-20wt.%, still pref. 10-15wt.%, is used. The amt. of the black compounded is pref. 1-15wt.% still pref. 2-10wt.%, of the ink. SOLUTION: This water-based pigment ink excellent in pigment dispersibility and ink dryability comprises (A) a pigment such as carbon black, (B) a copolymer from a (meth)acrylic acid derivative of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or a lower alkyl; (m1 ) is an integer of 0-2; AO is a 2-3C oxyalkylene; (n) is an integer of 1-300; X is H or a lower alkyl) and a monomer of formula II [R3 to R5 are each H, a lower alkyl or a group of the formula (CH2 )m2 COOM2 (M2 is H, an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium or amine; (m2 ) is an integer of 0-2); M1 is the same kind as M2 ], (C) an aliphatic monohydric alcohol (e.g. ethyl alcohol), (D) a water-soluble solvent (e.g. diethylene glycol), and water as aqueous medium.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-base ink excellent in fixability to a recording medium, particularly plastics, such as an OHP sheet, or metal. SOLUTION: This ink consists of 1-15wt.% water-insoluble coloring material, 2-10wt.% water-soluble resin, 1-15wt.% aliphatic monohydric alcohol, 0.1-30wt.% water-soluble solvent and 30-95.9wt.% water, and it will contain 2-7wt.% water- soluble resin after being subjected to ultracentrifugal separation at 50,000 G for 4hr.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous pigment ink which is excellent in storage stability and, especially when it is used as an ink-jet recording ink, is free from clogging at a printer head, so that a good stability in its discharging is performed. SOLUTION: In an aqueous pigment ink containing a pigment, a polymer dispersing, a water-soluble solvent and water as main components, as the polymer dispersant, use is made of a copolymer obtained by using a polyalkylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate monomer trepresented by formula I, wherein R is H or 1-3C alkyl; R is ethylene or propylene; R3 is butylene; R is H or 1-5C alkyl or alkenyl; M+n is 5 to 300; and m:n=10:90 to 90:10, and a (meth)acrylic acid monomer represented by formula II, wherein R is H or 1-3C alkyl; X is H, a monovalent metal, a divalent metal, ammonium or an organic amine, in amounts of 10 to 5wt.% and 50 to 90wt.%, respectively, or a copolymer obtained by neutralizing this copolymer with an alkaline substance.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a water-base ink for ink jet recording wherein the ink dispersion step is easy to control by regulating the cumulative power applied per unit weight to be in a specified range. SOLUTION: In dispersing a pigment dispersion prepared by predispersing at least a pigment and a polymeric dispersant in an aqueous medium in a sand mill, the cumulative power applied to the sand mill per unit weight is adjusted to 0.1-10kWh/kg. The polymeric dispersant preferably comprises a copolymer of (meth)acrylic acid derivatives in particular. The (meth)acrylic acid derivatives preferably include monomers of formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkyl; m1 is 0 to 2; AO is a 2-3C oxyalkylene; n is 1 to 300; and X is H or lower alkyl) and monomers (including acid anhydrides) of formula II [wherein R3 , R4 and R5 are each H, lower alkyl or (CH2 )m2 C00M2 ; M1 and M2 are each H, an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, ammonium or amine; and m, is 0 to 2] in particular.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the storage stability under severe conditions and long-term delivery stability of water-base ink for ink jet recording mainly comprising a pigment, a polymeric dispersant, and water by incorporating a specified amt. of a pigment having a specified particle size distribution into the ink. SOLUTION: This ink contains 1-15wt.% pref. 2-10wt.% pigment (e.g. a carbon black) comprising 60-98vol.%, pref. 75-98vol.% particles with particle sizes lower than 0.2μm, 0.5-40vol.% pref. 0.5-20vol%, particles with particle sizes of 0.2-0.6μm, and 5vol.% or lower, pref. 3vol.% or lower, particles with particle sizes of 0.6μm or higher. The polymeric dispersant used is pref. a (meth)acrylic acid deriv. copolymer obtd. by copolymerizing a monomer represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkyl; m1 is 0-2; AO is 2-3C oxyalkylene; n is 1-300; and X is R1 ) and a monomer (including its acid anhydride) represented by formula II [R3 to R5 are each R1 or (CH2 )m2 ;COOM2 ; M1 and M2 are each H, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, or an amine; and m2 is m1 ].

SOLUTION: A mixture comprising 0.1-10 monomer which is represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or a lower alkyl; m1 is 0-2: AO is a 2 or 3C oxyalkylene; n is 1-300; and X is H or a lower alkyl) and in which n (the number of the introduced oxyalkylene groups) is 1 or 2 and 90-99.9mol% monomer represented by formula I (wherein n is 3 or greater) is copolymerized with a monomer represented by formula II [wherein R3 to R5 are each H, a lower alkyl or (CH2 )m2 COOM2 ; M1 and M2 are each an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, ammonium or an amine; and m2 is 0-2] or its anhydride in a molar ratio of (0.1-100)/100 to obtain a polymeric dispersant comprising a copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight of 5,000-200,000. 1-15wt.% pigment is mixed with 0.1-4wt.% above polymer dispersant, 0.1-30wt.% water-soluble solvent, 70-98wt.% water and 0.004-5wt.% dispersibility improver.
