Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-base ink which does not gel even at high temps. by causing the surfaces of substantially water-insoluble fine particles to adsorb a polyalkylene glycol before or during mixing and dispersing a colorant, a dispersant, and the fine particles into a water-base medium. SOLUTION: The surface of at least one kind of fine particles selected from among particles of silcon oxide, titanium oxide, and aluminum oxide are caused to adsorb a polyalkylene glycol (e.g. polyethylene glycol) pref. having a wt. average mol.wt. of 2,000-20,000. After the fine particles are mixed and dispersed into the polyalkylene glycol to give a dispersion liquid contg. fine particles having adsorbed the polyalkylene glycol, a colorant (e.g. carbon black), a dispersant (e.g. a formaline condensate of a polynuclear arom. compd. sulfonate), and a water-soluble medium (e.g. diethylene glycol) are mixed and dispersed into the liquid, and the resultant colorant dispersion is further diluted with water to a specified concn., thus giving the objective water-base ink.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make printing stable in printing density for a long period of time and excellent in water resistance, marker resistance and abrasion resistance by a method wherein water-base ink that is made of water-insoluble or water solution-resistant coloring material is used as water-base ink and hydrophilic porous body is used as ink-holding porous body. SOLUTION: An ink supply cartridge is formed, employing water-base ink that is made of water-insoluble or water solution-resistant coloring material as water-base ink and hydrophilic porous body as ink-holding porous body. For the hydrophilic porous body, such that is in 60-95% of porosity while being in 20-1000 μm of average pore size is suitable, and hydrophilic open cell porous body is more suitable. Coloring material that can be impregnated with polymer is usable as the water-insoluble or water solution-resistant coloring material. Dye or pigment such as, for instance, oil-soluble dye, disperse bye and the like can be listed as coloring material, and in view of satisfactory saturating property and adsorption property (sealing property), the oil-soluble dye and the disperse dye are especially suitable for use.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink excellent in long-term storage stability and environmental stability by forming an ink comprising a water-insoluble or difficulty water-soluble colorant, a dispersant and a water-soluble medium, wherein the dispersant is a polymeric dispersant obtained by condensing a sulfonate of aromatic compound mixture containing polynuclear aromatic compounds with formalin and neutralizing the condensate. SOLUTION: The polynuclear aromatic compounds used are desirably anthracene, phenanthrene, pyrene, acenaphthene and fluorene. The mixing ratio is desirably such that the colorant, the polymeric dispersant and the aqueous medium account for 2-10 wt.%, 0.5-10 wt.% and 80-97.2 wt.%, respectively. The fluid may optionally contain microparticles having a means primary particle diameter of 5-600 m. It is also desirable that the fluid contains polyethylene glycol. It is also desirable that the fluid contains a surfactant selected among nonionic and anionic surfactants.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink excellent in long-term storage stability and environmental stability by forming an ink comprising a water-insoluble or difficultly water-soluble colorant, a dispersant and a water-soluble medium, wherein the dispersant is a polymeric dispersant obtained by condensing a sulfonate of aromatic compound mixture containing alkyl naphthalenes with formalin and neutrlizing the condensate. SOLUTION: The aromatic compound mixture contains aromatic compounds represented by the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-5C alkyl). Compounds of the formula are desirably dimethylnaphthalene, methylnaphthalene and butylnaphthalene. The mixing ratio is desirably such that the colorant, the polymeric dispersant and the aqueous medium account for 2-10 wt.%, 0.8-10 wt.% and 80-97.2 wt.%, respectively. The fluid may optionally contain microparticles having a means primary particle diameter of 5-600 nm. It is also desirable that the fluid contains polyethylene glycol and a surfactant selected among nonionic and anionic surfactants.

(10:1)-(1:4), still pref. (5:1)-(1:3).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject dispersion excellent in long-term storage stability and environmental stability by using a polymer dispersion obtained from a specific raw material as a dispersion. SOLUTION: This color material dispersion comprises (A) a water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble coloring material, (B) a polymer dispersion obtained by subjecting a sulfonated product obtained by sulfonating creosote oil to formalin condensation and neutralizing the condensed product and (C) a water-soluble medium. When concentrated sulfuric acid is used as the sulfonating agent in preparing the component B, creosote oil is charged into a reactor having an agitator and then, concentrated sulfuric acid is added thereto at 150-170 deg.C and sulfonation is preferably carried out for 1-2hr. Weight average molecular weight of the component B is preferably 2,000 to 50,000. It is preferable to include 15-30wt.% component A, 1.5-30wt.% component B and 50-83wt.% component C in the objective dispersion. The weight ratio of the components A/B is preferably (100/100) to (100/30). Pigment, oil-soluble dye, etc., is preferably used as the component A.

SOLUTION: A pigment dispersion contg. a pigment, a polymeric dispersant, a water-soluble solvent, and water is subjected to ultrasonic treatment at an output of 250-3,000W and a frequency of 20-50kHz to disperse the pigment. The polymeric dispersant used id pref. a (meth)acrylic acid deriv. copolymer, esp, one obtd. by copolymerizing a monomer represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkyl; m1 is 0-2; AO is 2-3C oxyalkylene; n is 1-300; and X is H or lower alkyl) and a monomer (including its acid anhydride) represented by formula II [R3 to R5 are each H, lower alkyl, or (CH2 )m2 COOM2 (wherein M1 and M2 are each H, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, or an amine, and m2 is 0-2].

SOLUTION: A carbon black having a volatile content of 9-25wt.%, pref. 9.5-20wt.%, still pref. 10-15wt.%, is used. The amt. of the black compounded is pref. 1-15wt.% still pref. 2-10wt.%, of the ink. The polymeric dispersnant used in pref. a (meth)acrylic acid deriv. copolymer obtd. by copolymeizing a monomer represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkyl; m1 is 0-2; AO is 2-3C oxyalkylene; n is 1-300; and X is R1 ) and a monomer (including its acid anhydride) represented by formula II [R3 to R5 are each R1 or (CH2 )m2 COOM2 ; M1 and M2 are each H, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, or an amine; and m2 is m1 ].
