    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-base ink which does not gel even at high temps. by causing the surfaces of substantially water-insoluble fine particles to adsorb a polyalkylene glycol before or during mixing and dispersing a colorant, a dispersant, and the fine particles into a water-base medium. SOLUTION: The surface of at least one kind of fine particles selected from among particles of silcon oxide, titanium oxide, and aluminum oxide are caused to adsorb a polyalkylene glycol (e.g. polyethylene glycol) pref. having a wt. average mol.wt. of 2,000-20,000. After the fine particles are mixed and dispersed into the polyalkylene glycol to give a dispersion liquid contg. fine particles having adsorbed the polyalkylene glycol, a colorant (e.g. carbon black), a dispersant (e.g. a formaline condensate of a polynuclear arom. compd. sulfonate), and a water-soluble medium (e.g. diethylene glycol) are mixed and dispersed into the liquid, and the resultant colorant dispersion is further diluted with water to a specified concn., thus giving the objective water-base ink.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink excellent in long-term storage stability and environmental stability by forming an ink comprising a water-insoluble or difficulty water-soluble colorant, a dispersant and a water-soluble medium, wherein the dispersant is a polymeric dispersant obtained by condensing a sulfonate of aromatic compound mixture containing polynuclear aromatic compounds with formalin and neutralizing the condensate. SOLUTION: The polynuclear aromatic compounds used are desirably anthracene, phenanthrene, pyrene, acenaphthene and fluorene. The mixing ratio is desirably such that the colorant, the polymeric dispersant and the aqueous medium account for 2-10 wt.%, 0.5-10 wt.% and 80-97.2 wt.%, respectively. The fluid may optionally contain microparticles having a means primary particle diameter of 5-600 m. It is also desirable that the fluid contains polyethylene glycol. It is also desirable that the fluid contains a surfactant selected among nonionic and anionic surfactants.

SOLUTION: The aromatic compound mixture contains aromatic compounds represented by the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-5C alkyl). Compounds of the formula are desirably dimethylnaphthalene, methylnaphthalene and butylnaphthalene. The mixing ratio is desirably such that the colorant, the polymeric dispersant and the aqueous medium account for 2-10 wt.%, 0.8-10 wt.% and 80-97.2 wt.%, respectively. The fluid may optionally contain microparticles having a means primary particle diameter of 5-600 nm. It is also desirable that the fluid contains polyethylene glycol and a surfactant selected among nonionic and anionic surfactants.
