Abstract: The present invention provides a printed circuit board in which electrode layers can electrically be connected by an inner-through-hole connection, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the board is equal to that of a semiconductor, high thermal conductivity can be obtained and wiring can be formed at a high density. A cover film (25) is laminated on both surfaces of a resin impregnated fabric sheet (1), holes are formed by laser beams in the direction of the thickness of the sheet (1) and cover film (25), an electrically conductive paste (23) that contains the electrically conductive particles (3) and a thermosetting resin is filled in the holes. The cover film (25) is removed, a copper foil (22) is placed on both sides of the sheet (1), and pressed and heated, and the resin component of the sheet (1) and that of the electrically conductive paste (23) are hardened. The copper foil (22) is etched to form circuit patterns (6) and (26), and further etching removes the electrically conductive particles (3) present at a surface layer portion so that an electrical insulating layer (4) is thus formed.

Abstract: An electro-optical device employing liquid crystal cell, which consists of a first electrode and a second electrode opposed to the first electrode, at least one of which being light-transparent, and a liquid crystal sandwiched between the first and second electrodes, is driven by voltage pulses with special wave form and changes in its optical transmission or reflection. The liquid crystal is cholesteric liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy. A first circuit connected to the first electrode generates a.c. voltage pulse having phase phi 1 for time duration T1 and a d.c. bias voltage of the same amplitude as that of the a.c. voltage pulse. A second circuit connected to the second electrode generates a.c. voltage having the same amplitude, the same bias as that of the a.c. voltage pulse and phase phi 1 switchable to another phase phi 2 for time interval T2 which is varied with the change of a signal such as image signal. This technique is extended to an X-Y matrix display device which has plural display elements formed at intersections of plural X-electrodes and plural Y-electrodes opposing to and crossing the X-electrodes with a gap.

Abstract: 1400495 Liquid crystal compositions MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 31 July 1972 [29 July 1971] 35740/72 Heading C4X [Also in Division H4] A liquid crystal composition suitable for use in an electro-optic cell (see Divisions H3-H5) comprises a steroidal compound, a nematogenic compound having positive dielectric anisotropy and, preferably, a further nematogenic compound having negative dielectric anisotropy. Useful steroidal compounds are #-cholesterol, ergosterol, lanosterol, cholesterol and cholesteryl derivatives such as the oleyl carbonate, preferably 1-15 mole per cent in the binary mixture and more than 1 mole per cent in the ternary mixture. The nematogenic compound with positive anisotropy is selected from palkoxybenzylidene - p 1 - cyanoaniline, pcyanobenzylidene - p 1 - alkoxyaniline, palkoxybenzylidene - p 1 - aminoazobenzene and n - alkyl - p - cyanobenzylidene - p 1 - aminocinnamate, preferably 85-99 mole per cent in the binary mixture and more than 3 mole per cent in the ternary. The negative anisotropic material forms the remainder of the ternary mixture and is selected from anisaldazine, p - alkoxybenzylidene - p 1 - acyloxyaniline, p - alkoxybenzylidene - p 1 - alkylaniline, and p,p 1 - dialkoxy - azoxybenzene. More than one of each type of material may be used, the mixture may be a eutectic. Specific examples of compounds and mixtures are provided. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,227,616.
