Abstract: PURPOSE: To dispense with an auxiliary discharge cell to simplify the structure of a device, reduce the power consumption, improve the efficiency, and enhance the luminance by three-dimensionally wiring an anode, a cathode and an address electrode in matrix. CONSTITUTION: An address electrode 22 on the lower surface of an insulating substrate 21 is provided to form a plural column arrangement, an anode 24 is provided to form a plural row arrangement, and arranged orthogonally to the electrode 22 in grade separation form. A cathode 27 on a light transmitting glass substrate 25, is aligned in parallel to the anode 24 every aggregate of row unit connected to the same cathode bus line 28 to form a plural row arrangement as the whole. In the drive of a device, a writing discharge is first performed between the electrode 22 and the anode 24 arranged in grade separation form to store the display content, and a keeping discharge is then performed between the anode 24 and the cathode 27 to perform a display emission. Thus, an auxiliary discharge cell is dispensed with to simplify the structure of the device, the screen is highly made fine, the manufacturing efficiency is improved, and the cost can be also reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To miniaturize and lighten a power source and to reduce the cost by replacing permutation of plural sub-fields at every scanning line when a multi-level image is obtained by successively displaying plural sub-fields weighted with luminance in one field period. CONSTITUTION:The luminance Bj of the picture of the sub-field SF (J) becomes Bj=2 XB (J=1-8), and the luminance B on a display screen in one field period becomes B=SIGMA(AJX2 J )XBo (AJ=0 or 1, J=1-8) by successively displaying the images of eight sub-fields in one field period, and an image display with 256 gradations is attained. Then, in a first row scanning line, the sub-field SF (8) is the first on the list, and SF (7), SF (6) follow, and in a second row scanning line, the sub-field SF (7) is the first on the list, and SF (6), SF (5) follow. That is, the subfields weighted with eight kinds of luminance are mixed and displayed by the shift of a writing period at every scanning line, and the luminance is averaged.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of flicker at every field period with a few change in a pattern by providing a fine line portion having a spectral characteristic of black or of gray at a prescribed position on a stripe portion. CONSTITUTION:A cross type stripe filter is formed so that the first filter member F1 of stripe shape on which a cyan color striped portion Cy and a transparent striped portion W1 are arranged alternately and repeatedly, and the second filter member F2 of stripe shape on which a yellow color striped portion Ye and a transparent striped portion W2 are arranged same as above, the striped portions of which are crossed obliquely and are overlapped. With providing a fine line portion A having the spectral characteristic of black or of gray at the center part of striped portions Cy, Ye, W1 and W2 on each of these members W1 and W2, the same chrominance signal is obtained at each field even when an output is lowered by a non-light transmission area O at a border portion between Cy and Ye.
