    Abstract: PURPOSE:To directly produce the subject compound useful as a production intermediate for polymers and pharmaceuticals in high yield at a low cost by using easily available hydroquinone as a starting raw material and reducing with hydrogen in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by using hydroquinone as a starting raw material and reducing the material with hydrogen in a hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a palladium or nickel catalyst usually in hydrogen atmosphere having normal or positive pressure at 0-200%, preferably between normal temperature and 180 deg.C. The hydrocarbon solvent is e.g. benzene, toluene or cyclohexane and the amount of hydroquinone is 0.05-1g, especially 0.1-0.5g per 1ml of the solvent. The catalyst is palladium/activated carbon, nickel/pumice, etc., and the amount of nickel, etc., supported on the carrier is preferably 0.3-10wt.% based on the carrier.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain silazanes useful as a raw material for ceramics, an intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc., in high yield under mild reactional conditions by reacting hydrosilanes with amines using an alkali metal compound as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Hydrosilanes expressed by formula I (R -R represent H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, amino or organosilicon group; (k) is 1-100) are reacted with an amine expressed by formula II (R and R represent H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl or organosilicon group) by using an alkali metal compound expressed by the formula MAH4 (M represents alkali metal; A represents boron or aluminum) (preferably LiBH4, LiAlH4, NaBH4, NaAlH4, KBH4 or KAlH4) to afford the objective silazanes. The amount of the catalyst to be used is preferably 0.1-1mol based on 100mol hydrosilanes.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield by using ion exchange type-layer compound as a catalyst and a specific mononuclear aromatic hydrocarbon as an alkylating agent, respectively, in carrying out transmethylating reaction of naphthalene and/or monomethylnaphthalene.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for antioxidants, polymerization initiators, agricultural chemicals, medicines, polymers and organic synthesis in high yield and selectivity, by reacting a phenol with an aromatic amine in the presence of an ion exchange type layered clay catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A phenol of formula I (X is H, hydroxyl or amino; R is H, hydroxyl, alkyl or halogen; n is 1 or 2) is reacted with an aromatic amine of formula II (Y is H, hydroxyl, amino or alkyl; R is H, alkyl or halogen; m is 1 or 2) in the presence of an ion exchange type layered clay catalyst, e.g. synthetic mica or montmorillonite, at 50-400 deg.C, preferably 100-200 deg.C for 5min- 10hr to give the aimed substance. The synthetic mica as the catalyst is a layered compound consisting essentially of silicon dioxide, and the montmorillonite is a fluorosilicate mineral, constituting clay, and having a layered structure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the corresponding hydroperoxide in high selectivity and conversion at high reaction rate by oxidizing an arylalkyl hydrocarbon with an oxygen-contg. gas in the presence of a catalyst, i.e., manganese dioxide or permanganate. CONSTITUTION: This hydroperoxide is obtained by reaction of 100 pts.wt. of a compound of the formula (P and Q are each H or an alkyl; n is 1-3; Ar is a n-valent aromatic hydrocarbon) with an oxygen-contg. gas (e.g. air) under atomospheric pressure at 50-130 deg.C using 0.00001-5wt.% of a catalyst, i.e. manganese dioxide or permanganate. By the above method, the objective compound can be obtained at high conversion rate without formation of byproducts such as formic acid and acetic acid while suppressing the decomposition of the compound formed.

CONSTITUTION: This hydroperoxide is obtained by reaction of a compound of the formula (P and Q are each H or an alkyl; n is 1-3; Ar is a n-valent aromatic hydrocarbon) with an oxygen-contg. gas (e.g. air) under normal pressures at 40-120 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst, a ruthenium oxide or a ruthenium compound having Ru-O-Ru structure. The ruthenium oxide or ruthenium compound as the catalyst are e.g. ruthenium dioxide or μ-oxo-diacetato-bis(tripyridylruthenium), respectively. The amount of the catalyst to be used is 0.00001-10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the compound of the formula.
