    Abstract: A dual mode cellular cordless portable radiotelephone preferentially selects the cordless base station over the cellular system when in range of the cordless base station. When the cordless cellular portable is operating in the cellular mode, the radio channel associated with the cordless base station is sampled for a predetermined time. When a signal on the sampled cordless base station channel is detected, the cordless portable moves to the cordless mode and remains in the cordless mode for as long as the signal quality of the signal on the cordless base station channel exceeds a predetermined value.

    Abstract: A portable radiotelephone (101) cooperatively operates with a cordless base station (115) over the local coverage area using cellular frequency channels. Both the portable radiotelephone (101) and the cordless base station (115) scan the available channels to generate separate priority lists. The portable radiotelephone (101) and the cordless base station (115) categorize the available channels in its own priority list from best to worst. The priority list from both the portable radiotelephone (101) and the cordless base station (115) are combined to form a master priority list. The cordless telephone system then assigns the clearest available channel from the master priority list for use in the cordless telephone system. Thus, interference to and from the cellular system and other users of the cellular frequencies is minimized and the need for frequency planning is eliminated.

    Abstract: A unique cellular telephone (100) connects to a standard telephone set (101) for providing cellular telephone services to subscribers in remote locations not served by a landline telephone system. The interface circuitry (102-107) provides the audio, voltage and dial signal interface to the telephone set (101). The microcomputer (108) also is responsive to dialing sequences including numerical digits preceded and followed by the # digit for selecting cellular telephone features.

    Abstract: An improved system and procedure for using user IDs to enter a personalized communication profile into a communication user interface (51), and preferab ly a vehicle-based communication user interface (51). In one embodiment, the us er IDs correspond to switches (100a-d), which may comprises switches within the vehicle (26) or on devices in wireless communication with the vehicle (26), such as a key fob (150). The key fob code can either constitute the user ID or can be user to retrieve it from either the vehicle's head unit (50) or a communications server (24). The switch may be dedicated to inputting the use r ID, or may comprise switches also serving other functions, such as seat adjustment of the vehicle. The user ID can also be loaded using a display (7 9) associated with the user interface (51). Additionally, the user ID may also be retrieved using a voice recognition module (70), which allows for loading of the communication profile without the necessity of pressing switches. The us er profile retrieved using the user ID can either be stored at the head unit (5 0) or the communication server (24).
