    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a structure, to reduce a manufacturing cost of a device, to enhance availability of a light source and to reduce power consumption by sequentially displaying color image information on a liquid crystal display panel and switching a light emission color of a color backlight panel synchronized with its displayed picture. SOLUTION: An electron source 4 is formed on a vacuum space side of a rear surface substrate 1 becoming a vacuum enclose of the backlight panel 3 consisting of a rear surface substrate 1 and a transparent front surface substrate 2, and phosphor pixels 5 of R, G, B are formed on the vacuum space side on the front surface substrate 2. Further, the liquid crystal panel 8 is constituted of a liquid crystal substrate 6 and a glass substrate 7. A liquid crystal pixel 9 is formed on the liquid crystal substrate 6. Polarizing panels 10, 11 that the polarization directions are shifted to each other by nearly 90 deg. are arranged back and forth the liquid crystal display panel 8, and a light diffusion panel 12 is arranged between the polarizing panel 10 and the backlight panel 3. Then, plural color image information are displayed sequentially on the liquid crystal display panel 8, and the light emission color of the backlight panel 3 is switched.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron gun and an electron beam device in which an electron beam density-modulated with high frequency can be extracted from a cold cathode. SOLUTION: A gate electrode 23 is formed on a cathode substrate 21 via first insulation layer 22, and a focusing electrode 25 is formed thereon via second insulation layer 24. A cavity 26 is formed from the first insulation layer 22 extending over the focusing electrode 25, and on emitter 27 is formed in the cavity 26. The tip of the emitter 27 is protruded beyond the top face of the gate electrode 23, and an electron beam modulation signal is applied to between the gate electrode 23 and the focusing electrode 25.

SOLUTION: A cathode electrode 5 of a field emission emitter array cold cathode 1 having a two-stage gate structure composed of a focusing electrode 8 and a control electrode 7, is divided in a concentric ring shape, and is driven by an ON/OFF possible constant current source controlled by a digital circuit. At least one of the focusing electrode 8 and the control electrode 7 has an axially symmetrical electrode shape sufficiently larger than the opening area of an electron gun electrode adjacent to the cold cathode 1.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always hold a focusing state of an electron beam in the best state or a state near the best independently of a current value of an electron beam by providing a specific cold cathode and an electric circuit. SOLUTION: A cold cathode 15 is stored in an image pickup tube 49, electrons discharged from the cold cathode 15 are accelerated by a grid 50 being an electrode of the image pickup tube 49 and made an electron beam 8, further focused by an electrostatic type focusing/deflection electrode 51, while deflected and impacts a photoconduction film 53 of the prescribed position. Then, an electron beam current is detected by a detecting resistor 11, voltage being proportional to a current is compared with the reference voltage by an error amplifier 13, an output of the amplifier 13 is applied to a control electrode of the cold cathode 15 so that this current is made constant, while an output voltage-divided by a variable resistor 14 is applied to a focusing electrode of the cold cathode 15. Thereby, a divergence angle of electrons discharged from a minute cold cathode can be always held in the best state or a state near the best independently of an electron beam current value.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To restrain the component of transverse velocity of electrons to be emitted from an electron emission range on the periphery, so as to hold the small emission angle of the electron orbit by increasing the opening diameter of control electrodes on the center part of the electron emission range of a field emission cathode, and decreasing the opening diameter on the periphery. CONSTITUTION: An insulating layer 2 and a gate electrode 3 are laminated on a base plate 1 made of silicon from below in this order, and tiny cavities 4 are formed on the gate electrode 3 and the insulating layer 2. Conical emitters 5 are formed in the cavities 4, and the base plate 1 and the emitters 5 are electrically connected. Tiny negative electrodes 6 are formed on the emitters 5, the opening of the gate electrode 3 and the cavities 4, and an electron emission range 7 is formed of many negative electrodes 6. The emitters on the periphery of the negative electrode are formed lower than the emitters on the other part by forming the opening diameter of the gate electrode on the periphery of the negative electrode a little smaller in relation to a mask for forming the cavities 4. Accordingly, emission current is decreased, and also the emission angle is also decreased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption power for heating a cathode in operation and for discharging the adsorbed gas extensively, by processing thin the part corresponding to the electron discharging part of a cold cathode substrate, and feeding a current to the thin part, 70 as to heat locally. CONSTITUTION:To the opening of a gate electrode 4, and the rear side of an electron discharging part where minute cold cathodes composed of emitters 3 with tips formed sharp are gathered, in a substrate 1, a recess or an electron discharge substrate 5 is formed by an etching or the like. Since the substrate 5 is thin enough, the heat is generated by letting flow a current between an electrode A 6-1 and an electrode B 6-2. The heat is generated at the part very close to the heating part in operation. In a normal processing course of a vacuum device, the gas adsorbed to the parts in a container is exhausted by heating, and in this case, maintaining the electron discharge part which gives a strong influence to the electron discharge property at a high temperature locally is effective extremely to maintain a high vacuum and the discharge property.

An electron emitting electrode 2, which is constituted so that it is brought into contact with the substrate 11 and insulated from the metal layer 5 to provide the lengthwise direction in at least two directions or more, is prepared in this lack part 4.
