Abstract:
A multimedia data stream is partitioned into two or more parts based on importance, e.g., a first part might represent more significant bits in groups of bits representing pixel colors in a video frame, while a second part might represent the less significant bits in the groups. The more important part of the stream is amplified more than the less important part of the stream.
Abstract:
A method and system (16) by which parameter data representative of vocoded speech are organized into a data packet for transmission so as to reduce the impact of transmission channel induced errors on the data packet. A data packet is constructed with certain most perceptually significant bits of parameter data at the beginning of the data packet. Following in the data packet are lesser perceptually significant bits of the same parameter data. Other parameter data then follows in the data packet. Interleaved in the data packet following the most perceptually significant bits at the beginning of the data packet are most perceptually significant bits of other parameter data. A parity check code is computed from the most perceptually significant bits in the data packet and also interleaved in the data packet following the most perceptually significant bits at the beginning of the data packet.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A method and apparatus that allows a telecommunications system using cdma2000 1X to easily migrate to using cdma2000 3X. In other embodiments, the invention provides for better spectrum management, allows concurrent usage of a standard cdma2000 1X reverse link with a cdma2000 1X time-division-duplexing (TDD) reverse link, and provides for hardware supplementation - as opposed to total replacement - when additional services are added to an existing code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) system.
Abstract:
Abstract:
An apparatus for masking frame errors comprising memory means for storing at least one previous frame of data and for providing said at least one previous frame of data in response to a frame error signal; and masking means for receiving said frame error signal and for generating a masking signal in accordance with at least one previous frame of data and a predetermined error masking format.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method perform speech signal compression by variable rate coding of frames of digitized speech samples. The level of speech activity for each frame of digitized speech samples is determined and an output data packet rate is selected from a set of rates based upon the determined level of frame speech activity. Errors are masked in frames of data by providing an indication of a frame abnormality in a current frame. Data is stored of at least one previous frame and the stored data is provided in response to the indication of a frame abnormality. The indication of a frame abnormality is responded to by processing the stored data to reduce values represented thereby. A new frame of data is then produced from the processed data for use as the current frame of data.
Abstract:
A method of adding hangover frames to a plurality of frames encoded by a vocoder, the method comprising: detecting that a predefined number of successive frames has been encoded at a first rate; determining that a next successive frame should be encoded at a second rate that is less than the first rate; and selecting a number of successive hangover frames beginning with the next successive frame to encode at the first rate, the numbering dependent upon an estimate of a background noise level.
