    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining and applying timing corrections in a digital communications system. In an aspect, a timing correction method is provided for a multi-carrier system. This includes aligning two or more symbols with respect to each other from a symbol subset in order to account for timing differences between the symbols. The symbol alignment is first carried out to generate channel estimates for data demodulation. The channel estimates, thus generated, along with the timing alignment information are in turn used for determining timing corrections-to be applied to future symbols.

    Abstract: A wireless communication method is disclosed, comprising measuring a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) for a current radio frequency (RF); determining whether the measured RSSI is above a predetermined threshold value; monitoring neighboring RFs; and detecting the presence of the FLO (forward link only) signal in the neighboring RFs without detecting a time-division multiplexed pliot (TDM1). Also disclosed is a method of monitoring radio frequencies (RFs) at an access terminal in a wireless communication environment to detect a FLO (Forward link only) signal without detecting a time-division multiplexed pliot (TDM1), the method comprising detecting an energy level for a wide-area identity (WID) channel associated with a received signal; comparing the energy level for the WID channel with a predetermined threshold; and detecting a presence of the FLO signal based upon the comparison.

    Abstract: A method of communications channel coding gain optimization using combined ISI cancellation and turbo decoding is provided. Log-likelihood ratio probabilities with extrinsic values are computed from previous iterations of turbo decoding and used to compute the soft-decision values of channel symbols. The soft-decision values are then used to perform intersymbol interference cancellation and generate refined channel log-likelihood ratio probabilities for the next iteration of turbo decoding.
