Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a connection to a base station for wireless communications with a network that supports vehicle based communications. The UE may identify a boundary time for the base station. The boundary time may be associated with a periodic schedule when UEs connected to the base station and participating in the vehicle based communications over the network perform a disconnect procedure and a reattach procedure. The UE may perform the disconnect procedure and the reattach procedure at the boundary time.

Abstract: A network architecture is disclosed with support for location services (LCS). A radio access network (RAN) node receives a registration request from a user equipment (UE), indicating that the UE supports a ranging based location service session. The RAN node further receives an internal identifier (ID) for identifying information associated with the UE in communication between the RAN node and a core network during the ranging based location service session. The RAN node allocates radio resources to the UE for performing a ranging operation involving a plurality of devices including the UE, and associates the radio resources with the internal ID of the UE for identifying location results. Then the RAN node informs the UE of the radio resources allocated for the ranging operation.

Abstract: The present disclosure enables a multicast and/or unicast transmitting UE to configure a multicast device-to-device communication and/or the unicast device-to-device communication such that UE may distinguish between the unicast and multicast device-to-device communications. The apparatus receives a unicast device-to-device communication including a destination identifier. The apparatus also receives a multicast device-to-device communication including the destination identifier. The apparatus differentiates the unicast device-to-device communication from the multicast device-to-device communication based on information provided in a header of the unicast device-to-device communication.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus relating to ad cache maintenance e.g. determining when ad cache replenishment should occur replenishing ad cache content and/or updating the content of an ad cache on a device which supports the presentation of advertisements (ads) are described. Signals are received by a first device including an ad cache. The signals are received from other devices e.g. devices in the direct wireless communications range of the first device. Received signals are processed and provide context information e.g. information about the surrounding services available stores in the region etc. in which the first device receiving the signals is at a given point in time. Context information is stored. As new context information is generated from received signals the newly generated set of context information is compared to a previously generated set of context information. Changes in context information are detected and used in performing ad cache maintenance operations.

Abstract: A novel key management approach is provided for securing communication handoffs between an access terminal and two access points. As an access terminal moves from a current access point to a new access point, the access terminal sends a short handoff request to the new access point. The short handoff request may include the access terminal ID; it does not include the access point ID. The new access point may then send its identifier and the access terminal's identifier to the authenticator. Using a previously generated master transient key, the access point identifier and the access terminal identifier, an authenticator may generate a master session key. The master session key may then be sent to the access point by the authenticator. The access terminal independently generates the same new security key with which it can securely communicate with the new access point.

Abstract: Signal, e.g., message, security techniques are described for wireless systems. A first signal is received by an access node via a wireless link. The signal includes a first authenticator that was generated by the transmitting device, e.g., wireless terminal. The access node determines from an attribute of the signal at least some information known to both the access node and transmitting device but which was not transmitted as part of the message content. The determined information was used by the wireless terminal in generating the first authenticator. The access node sends at least a portion of the first signal including the first authenticator and the determined information to another entity. The entity compares the first authenticator to a second authenticator it generates from the determined information and a secure key which it shares with the transmitting device to determine if the first and second authenticators match.
