PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for reducing interference in a wireless communication system when the source of interference is a deterministic component of the system. SOLUTION: A receiver weights the transmitters according to when the source of interference is transmitted. Further, the transmitter may employ power boosting to overcome the source of interference. A W-CDMA system transmits a sync channel concurrently with physical channels, wherein the sync channel is not orthogonal to the physical channels. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to trust in arrival timing of a symbol from each cell and determine which symbol should be compounded at the time of software hand-off operation. SOLUTION: After down link data frame time offset is determined, a mobile station 101 is informed about the down link data frame time offset, by transmitting the down link data frame time offset through an active set renewal message, which is transmitted from a cell 102 or a cell 103 to the mobile station 101. Once the active set renewal message is received, the data frame time offset information is fed to a timing block, and thereby data frame border of each down link signal is determined. The timing block adjusts PN sequence timing corresponding to the down link signal in relation to the data frame time offset so that the corresponding data symbol in each data frame can be subjected to software composition correctly in a compositor. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and improved method for performing power control of a reverse link. SOLUTION: A reverse-link signal, transmitted at a reverse-link transmission power, includes at least a traffic channel transmitted at a traffic channel transmit power and a pilot channel transmitted at a pilot channel transmit power. The reception energy of the pilot channel is measured in a receiving system, and a decrease power control command is generated, when the reception energy is greater than the reception energy threshold. If the receive energy is smaller than the reception energy threshold, increase of power control command is generated. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for determining a transmission configuration for a dedicated channel in a wireless communication system. SOLUTION: An optimum configuration is determined, based on minimizing Peak-to-Average Ratio (PAR) of the channel. The configuration is defined as a transmission pair of transmission branch and spreading code. The transmission branch may be the In-Phase (I) branch or the Quadrature (Q) branch. PAR analysis may be performed off-line to determine the optimum configuration. Techniques to implement MBMS services in a wireless communication system. In one aspect, a method is provided for processing data for transmission to a plurality of terminals. Frames of information bits (which may have variable rates) are provided to a buffer implementing a matrix. The matrix is padded with padding bits based on a particular padding scheme to support variable frame rates. The frames are then coded based on a particular block code to provide parity bits. The frame of information bits and the parity bits are then transmitted to the terminals. In another aspect, a method is provided for controlling the transmit power of a data transmission to a plurality of terminals. In accordance with the method, TPC streams are received from the terminals and processed to obtain a stream of joint power control commands used to adjust the transmit power of the data transmission.

In a communication system, a method and an accompanying apparatus determine a number of available fingers (110A-N) in a receiver (100). A controller (121) adjusts a threshold based on the determined number of the available fingers (110). The adjusted threshold may be one of, or any combination of, a pilot signal search threshold, a lock/unlock threshold, and a combine/un-combine threshold. The number of available fingers (110) may change after the threshold is adjusted.
