Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To naturally limit the viewing of a program by identifying a viewer who views the program and selecting the reduced screen of an electronic program guide corresponding to the identified result. SOLUTION: A CPU 29 controls an MPEG video decoder 25 and a password input screen is displayed on a monitoring device. A user inputs a memorized password corresponding to the message of the screen. The CPU 29 confirms the operation of a selection button switch and erasures the password input screen. Then, whether or not the inputted password matches with the password registerdd in an EEPROM 38 beforehand is judged. The release of a parental lock is not executed when the two passwords do not match and the release of the parental lock is executed when matching is judged. When the lock is released, the CPU 29 controls the decoder 25, and when the program of an adult category is present, selects it similarly to the other normal programs and displays it on the monitoring device.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently select a desired program out of a lot of programs by generating the data of electronic program guide, for which the still picture of the representative picture of a program broadcasted by plural broadcasting channels is reduced, and transmitting still picture data while superimposing them on the data of the program. SOLUTION: A switcher 301 is controlled by a controller 308, selects signals for two channels (CH) to be broadcasted for promotion and outputs them to a promotion CH generator 302. The device 302 superimposes those signals on data inputted from an ERG data generator through a single picture generator by a superimposer. Those data are multiplexed by an MUX, inputted to an MUX 304-1 and encoded. The MUX 304-1 multiplexes the data inputted from a device 302 and EPG data generator 309. Encoders from 303-1 to 303-7 encode the inputted video and audio data and output them to MUX from 304-2 to 304-8. A block 310 sends the reduced picture of the representative picture to the MUX from 304-1 to 304-8. Those data are passed through circuits from 305-1 to 305-8, synthesized by the synthesizing circuits 305 and transmitted.

Thus, the summary of the animation can be confirmed in detail corresponding to a time lapse by the display of the video index, and the precise retrieving and editing operation can be efficiently attained by using it.

In this way. the program is viewed as a regular program, not as an introduction program.
