Abstract: The image data processing apparatus comprises an image data sampler for one-dimensionally sampling animation image data successively received from an animation image generating source in one direction (vertical scan) 4 while successively moving the sampling position of successive image data in the other direction (horizontal scan) to produce data of a still image. A display screen is provided for displaying a group of such still images of the still image data received from the image data sampler with a cursor provided for designating a point or an area of the displayed still images. Time codes are generated for the designated areas and a compressed display of the image data corresponding to the selected points can be displayed separately. The image data processing apparatus allows the general flow of images to be grasped readily and an editing operation can be performed at a high efficiency.
