Abstract:
An automatic injector apparatus comprising an outer housing assembly, a hypodermic needle, first and second containers, a first liquid medicament ingredient in the first container and a second medicament ingredient in the second container, first and second pistons in the first and second containers respectively, a releasable stressed spring arrangement capable of being released twice, once for movement through a first piston moving stroke and second through a second piston moving stroke, a first releasing device operable in response to a first predetermined actuating procedure for accomplishing a first release of the spring arrangement so as to effect movement of the first piston through a liquid medicament ingredient moving stroke causing the liquid medicament ingredient to mix with the medicament ingredient in the second container to form liquid medicament and a second releasing device operable in response to a second actuating procedure for accomplishing a second release of the spring arrangement so as to effect movement of the second piston through an operative stroke causing the hypodermic needle to be moved into the muscle tissue of the patient and the liquid medicament to be moved through the needle into the muscle tissue of the patient.
Abstract:
A device for initiating reperfusion treatment of a coronary prone individual prior to the establishment of qualified direct contact personal care at a time during the early minutes or hours after the onset of heart attack symptoms and after qualified personnel have participated by telephone in the decision to initiate such treatment. The device comprises an automatic injector assembly (12) including a releasable force applying assembly (32 and 34), a safety (128, 130 and 132) normally disposed in a release preventing position movable therefrom into a release permitting position, a container or containers (44 and 96) for separately containing a plurality of separate medicament dosages including a first dosage (52) containing a clot selective coronary thrombolytic agent and a separate second dosage (98) containing a cardiac antiarrhythmic agent and one or more hypodermic needles (48 and 102). The automatic injector is operable in response to a predetermined manual actuating procedure including the movement of the safety into its release permitting position for effecting release of the releasable force applying assembly and causing the released force to be applied so as to effect (1) the movement of the hypodermic needle or needles into the muscle tissue of the individual and (2) the flow of the separate medicament dosages outwardly from the container or containers through the hypodermic needle or needles into the muscle tissue of the individual.

Abstract:
A package containing (1) t-PA, (2) methylamine or a non-toxic salt thereof, and (3) hydroxylamine or a non-toxic salt thereof, the amount of hydroxylamine or non-toxic salt thereof being sufficient to increase the absorption in the blood of the t-PA when it is administered non-intravascularly to a mammal and the amount of methylamine or non-toxic salt thereof being sufficient to reduce the amount of hydroxylamine or non-toxic salt thereof required to obtain the increased absorption of t-PA and a method for intramuscularly administering the same.
