    Abstract: A stressed spring assembly (14) for providing an operative stroke in cooperating relation with a medicament cartridge assembly (12) of an auto-injector (10) so as to inject a liquid medicament (40) of the medicament cartridge assembly (12) through a hypodermic needle (26) of the medicament cartridge assembly (12) into an injection site of the user. The stressed spring assembly (14) includes a cap structure (18) serving the plural purposes of (1) facilitating the securement of the cap structure (18) and remainder of the auto-injection with the user's pocket, (2) alleviating the likelihood of an unwanted release of the releasable mechanism of the stressed spring assembly (14) with a resultant unwanted movement of the hypodermic needle (26) and an unwanted movement of the liquid medicament (40) outwardly of the hypodermic needle (26) by requiring two different manual movements for its removal, and (3) protecting against an unwanted contact with the hypodermic needle (26) while in extended operative position after withdrawal from the injection site. The cap structure (18) is formed of first and second members (98, 104) disposed in a fixed assembled position with respect to one another into which the first and second members (98, 104) are snap-fitted by a relative movement toward one another in an axial direction. Both members (98, 104) are of a configuration enabling them to be molded by corresponding die surfaces contained on two die members movable together and apart.

    Abstract: An automatic injector apparatus comprising an outer housing assembly, a hypodermic needle, first and second containers, a first liquid medicament ingredient in the first container and a second medicament ingredient in the second container, first and second pistons in the first and second containers respectively, a releasable stressed spring arrangement capable of being released twice, once for movement through a first piston moving stroke and second through a second piston moving stroke, a first releasing device operable in response to a first predetermined actuating procedure for accomplishing a first release of the spring arrangement so as to effect movement of the first piston through a liquid medicament ingredient moving stroke causing the liquid medicament ingredient to mix with the medicament ingredient in the second container to form liquid medicament and a second releasing device operable in response to a second actuating procedure for accomplishing a second release of the spring arrangement so as to effect movement of the second piston through an operative stroke causing the hypodermic needle to be moved into the muscle tissue of the patient and the liquid medicament to be moved through the needle into the muscle tissue of the patient.

    Abstract: An autoinjector converted from an intramuscular to a subcutaneous mode of injection comprising a housing having a medicament cartridge assembly mounted within the housing means in a storage position for movement out of the storage position and a releasable stressed spring assembly for moving the medicament cartridge assembly means out of the storage position. The stressed spring assembly is operable in response to a manual actuating procedure which does not require compression of the subcutaneous tissue to effect an intramuscular mode of injection by moving the hypodermic needle of the cartridge assembly outwardly of the housing into the muscle tissue at the injection site of a user and a major portion of the liquid medicament of the cartridge assembly outwardly through the hypodermic needle into the muscle tissue of the user. An injection mode converting structure is secured in a subcutaneous mode position for converting the mode of injection effected by the stressed spring assembly from the intramuscular mode of injection to a subcutaneous mode of injection in which the needle cannot extend substantially beyond subcutaneous tissue at the injection site of the user and a major portion of the liquid medicament enters into the subcutaneous tissue.

    Abstract: An automatic injecting device including an elongated housing assembly, a stressed spring assembly mounted within the housing assembly so as to be released in response to a predetermined manual acutation procedure, and a medicament cartridge assembly mounted within the housing assembly in cooperating relation with the stressed spring assembly comprising a hypodermic needle and a medicament container housing forward and rearward individual dosages of different relatively incompatible liquid medicaments mounted therein and separated by a deformable stopper. The medicament container is formed of glass and includes a cylindrical wall open at its rearward end and having an exteriorly flanged necked down forward end portion. A hub assembly connects the exteriorly flanged necked down forward end portion with the hypodermic needle. A separate fitment of molded plastic material is mounted within the interior of the cylindrical glass wall adjacent the necked down forward end portion thereof for radially inwardly deforming the stopper during operation and thereby providing an axial by-pass in the periphery thereof.
