Abstract: The solar energy heater has a tube, contg a liq., which is divided into two parts. The first part acts as an evaporator, the liq. taking in solar energy as it evaporates, a and the second part is a condenser where the liq. condenses thus giving up its heat energy to its surroundings. The evaporation of the liq. is facilitated by covering the evaporator with an absorbent layer, providing a reflector to concentrate the rays onto the evaporator and enclosing the evaporation section in a glass jacket and producing a vacuum inside the jacket. The object of the improvements is to increase the efficiency of the seal between the jacket and the tube.

Abstract: A device for collecting solar energy and conveying it to a zone to be heated. It comprises a tube in two parts, the first part (evaporator) being surrounded by a vacuum and being covered with a heat absorbing material and exposed to the solar radiation. The tube contains a fluid which vaporized in the first part and absorbs heat and condenses in the second part and gives up the previously-stored heat. The fluid in the liquid phase is returned to the first part by a capillary system.

Abstract: Metallic coating for ceramics containing more than 99% alumina and which are virtually free from a vitreous phase, the novelty being that the coating consists of a mixt. of niobium and yttrium oxide Y2O3, using i-7 wt. % Y2O3 in the coating. Pref. Nb powder and Y2O3 powder are mixed and suspended in an organic binder, the substrate then being coated with the suspension, followed by heating the coated object in vacuum at 1650-1800 degrees C for 10-60 minutes. Used e.g. in mfg. electronic valves using ceramic and metal, esp. microwave tubes, and in thermo-electronic converters where the emitter is insulated from the collector. A good bond is obtd. between the metal coating and the alumina due to the use of the Y2O3 in the coating which diffuses into the alumina.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a graphite target for X-ray tubes. In order to avoid the drawbacks of graphite carrier (1) targets due to transformation into carbide of the photo-emissive coating (3) by the carrier material, the invention provides for the formation of the intermediate layer (2) in these targets, in the shape of two sub-layers one of which (20), in contact with the carrier, is made of a refractory material which does not form a carbide (iridium for example), and the other of which (21) is made of another refractory material (tantalum for example), which prevents diffusion of carbon from the carrier into the emissive layer.
