Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer having excellent composite substance phase- separating ability, by a method wherein a monomer mixt. of an arom. vinyl compd. and an alkyl (meth)acrylate is polymerized in the presence of a high-temperature active type free-radical generating polymn. initiator by a two-stage polymn. method. CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixt. consisting of 60-95wt% at least one arom. vinyl compd. (e.g. styrene) and 5-40wt% at least one monomer selected from a 2-12C alkyl acrylate (e.g. n-butyl acrylate) and a 6-18C alkyl methacrylate (e.g. n-hexyl methacrylate), is polymerized to 80-90% conversion of monomers to polymer in the presence of a high-temperature active type free-radical generating polymn. initiator having a 10hr half-life temp. of not lower than 100 deg.C (e.g. t- butyl peroxybenzoate) at 50-100 deg.C, while controlling max. polymn. rate to 10%/hr or less. Then the temp. of the polymn. mixt. is risen to 100 deg.C or higher to complete the polymn. reaction. By this two-stage polymn, the titled copolymer is produced which can be streched at 60-100 deg.C and is suitable for extrusion molding.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain refined cobalt hydroxide and/or nickel hydoixide by the procedure in which an aqueous cobalt sulfate and/or nickel sulfate solution containing Ca and/or Mg is treated by an alkali by two-step way to that Hp of the solution is in a specific range, and then subjected to hydrolysis. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous cobalt sulfate and/or nickel sulfate solution containing 50 to 100 ppm of Ca and/or 50 to 10000 ppm of Mg as impurities is regulated its pH to 7 to 10, preferably 7.5 to 9.5, by the addition of an alkali hydroxide. Then, after the neutralization, more than 50 % aqueous phase of the slurry are removed or replaced with water to remove more than 50 %, preferably more than 70 %, of Ca and/or MG present in the aqueous phase. Then, the remaining Co and/or Ni basic sulfate precipitate slurry is reacted with an alkali hydroxide with stirring, and then after regulating its pH to 11 to 14, preferably 11, 5 to 13.5, is subjected to hydrolysis. Subsequently, the slurry after regulating the pH is washed, dehydrated, and dried to obtain purified Ca(OH)2 and/or Mh(OH)2.
