    Abstract: A sensor module is able to sense at least one aspect of objects produced by a plurality of object sources. Since one sensor module or set of sensor elements is used to examine out put from the plurality of object sources, sensor to sens or variation is removed as a source of error. In a multi-engine document processor, information from the sensor module is used to adjust process actuators, adju st image data and/or generate scheduling constraints to improve output consistency. For example, facing pages of a document are rendered only on marking engin es operating within a predetermined tolerance of one another. Image data may be altered so that related images are within the measured capabilities of a plurality of marking engines. System actuators, such as xerographic actuators, of selecte d marking engines are adjusted to improve output consistency between marking engines.

    Abstract: In color printing with a color registration system for the registration of plural color images on an image bearing surface, such as a photoreceptor belt of a color printer, chevron shaped registration marks are imaged on the image bearing surface, which registration marks correspond to the color images and are sensed by a registration marks sensor as the image bearing surface moves in its process direction. The registration marks sensor has chevron shaped optical sensing areas provided by a matching pair of spaced apart elongated bi-cell detectors in a generally chevron shaped pattern. Each of these spaced apart elongated bi-cell detectors has a parallelogram shaped optical sensing area. That parallelogram shaped sensing area is defined by elongated parallelogram sides extending at the same angle as one leg of the chevron shaped registration marks, and parallelogram ends which are parallel to the process direction, so as to provide higher color registration accuracy.

    Abstract: An inductive-type rotary encoder (2) capable of generating an output signal indicative of the angular position of a rotor (4) to a stator (6) is disclosed. The rotary encoder (2) includes a stator (6) having at least one conductive pattern on one side thereof, and a rotor (4) having another conductive pattern on one side thereof which faces the at least one conductive pattern of the stator (6). The conductive patterns are inductively coupled to one another so as to generate an output signal indicative of the angular position of the rotor (4) relative to the stator (6). In order to reduce the overall size and number of parts required, the circuitry for energizing the stator conductive pattern(s) and for generating the output signal can be provided on a printed circuit board, the opposite side of which contains the at least one stator conductive pattern. In order to reduce noise as well as to reduce the first harmonic error, lead lines for attaching the stator and rotor conductive patterns to the controlling circuitry and a return line which extends along substantially the entire length of the rotor or stator conductive patterns and attaches to one of the lead lines are provided and specially located relative to undulations of the conductive patterns. Additionally, the length of spokes which define undulations of the respective rotor and stator conductive patterns can be controlled to improve the performance of the rotary encoder. A rotary encoder (2) including inductively coupled rotor and stator conductive patterns for generating a relative angular position (or rotary speed) of the rotor (4) relative to the stator (6), as well as stator and rotor index pulse patterns inductively coupled for generating an index pulse once per revolution of the rotor relative to the stator is also provided.
