Abstract: A development system including a developer transport adapted for depositing developer material on an imaging surface having an electrostatic latent image thereon, including a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of developer material including toner. A donor member is mounted partially in said chamber and spaced from the imaging surface, for transporting developer on an outer surface thereof to a region opposed from the imaging surface. The donor member has a magnetic assembly, which includes a plurality of poles, and a sleeve, enclosing said magnetic assembly and rotating about said magnetic assembly. A magnetic system generates a magnetic field to reduce developer bed height of said developer material on said donor member in a development zone.

Abstract: A cylindrical and rotatable resonating assembly, generally for use in electrostatographic applications. The resonating assembly is preferably positioned along a longitudinal axis generally transverse to the process direction of movement of a toner bearing member, for applying uniform vibratory energy thereto. The cylindrical form of the resonating assembly allows for rotation of the assembly while remaining in contact with the image bearing member to reduce frictional forces between a contact surface of the resonating assembly and the image bearing member which, in turn, reduces wear of the resonating assembly as well as the image bearing member. The resonating assembly may include a plurality of discrete individual resonator elements, each including a vibratory energy producing segment, such as a piezoelectric transducer, for generating vibratory energy and a waveguide segment coupled to the vibratory energy producing segment for transporting the vibratory energy from the transducer to the image bearing member.

Abstract: An acoustic scavengeless assist (ASA) development apparatus (40, 42, 44), forms part of a multicolor image reproduction machine (Fig. 1). The (ASA) development apparatus includes a biased vibratory section (46) having a piezoelectric member (85) and a donor member (88), as well as, a development electrode section (59), for presenting toner particles to latent electrostatic images for image development. The donor member (88) is positioned within the reproduction machine and forms a development nip with a latent image bearing surface (10) of a photoreceptor of the reproduction machine. Importantly, the biased vibratory section has at least a first conductive electrode (67) formed therein adjacent to said piezoelectric member (85) for effecting controlled vibratory toner release from the donor member (88), and a first bias for biasing the at least first conductive electrode. The development electrode section includes a set of second conductive electrodes (66) and a second bias (70) therefor, and is located between the at least first electrode (67) and the latent image bearing surface (10), for enhancing toner particle release from the donor member (88), and powder cloud formation within the development nip for quality image development.

Abstract: Pyro-electric charging device (60) for charging grounded photo-conductive surface member (90) has a cylindrical conductive roll support structure (62) completely covered by a layer of pyro-electric film (61). Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement zero graphic electrification and transcription process without any high voltage supply by generating electrification/surface electric potential for electrification or transcription using a pyroelectric material. SOLUTION: An electrification device 60 is constituted based on an idea of pyrotron which generates electrification/surface electric potential using thermal energy and contains pyroelectric materials (PVDF) 61 which are laminated on a grounded conductive roll 62. A heated conductive cleaning and neutralizing blade 64 is grounded and brought in contact with the PVDF materials 61 so that energy for electrifying this is supplied. Heating and cooling of the pyroelectric film such as PVDF provoke thermal expansion or contraction so as to change the surface charge density. This photoconductive member is electrified as necessary by using changes in the surface charge density before the photoconductive member is exposed on an image and at the same time the charge necessary for transcribing the image from the photoconductive member to a copy sheet is supplied.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the height of a peak developer bed to the minimum and to reduce the fluctuation of the height of the developer bed in a developing nip, in order to improve the quality of a color image. SOLUTION: The non-interactive magnetic brush developing device is prepared for placing developer on an image forming surface with an electrostatic latent image. Then, the device is provided with (a); a housing for forming a chamber for storing developer which is constituted of magnetic carrier and toner, (b); a donor roll 42 which is partly arranged in the chamber with leaving a fixed distance from the image forming surface and which is provided with a rotary magnetic multipolar core in a sleeve in order to attract the developer on to the sleeve and for carrying the toner on the sleeve to a developing area facing the image forming surface, and (c); a magnetic roll (roll with rotary magnetic multipolar core) 500 which is arranged on the rear side of the image forming surface facing the donor roll 42 and for generating a magnetic field in order to reduce the height of the developer bed on the donor roll 42 in the developing area.

SOLUTION: For an automatic image diagnosis, images having gradation or residual toner existing on the photoconductive surface of a photoreceptor may be scanned with light energy provided by a raster scanning system. The light energy, which may be reflected from the photoreceptor surface, may be disturbed due to scattering/absorption in toned gradation imparted, or damaged surface regions. The light energy may be directed to image sensors to obtain a spatial image map of the photoreceptor surface in conjunction with pixel clock information present for the raster scanning system. The evaluation may be made, based on the spatial image map, and diagnosis and maintenance may then be conducted to correct the defect and/or adjust the gradation level for a latent image formed on the photoreceptor surface. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the risk of image deterioration attributable to an electric field by increasing the discharge of toner from the surface of a piezoelectric donor member, and also by reducing the AC electric field. SOLUTION: A donor member of a developing device is arranged inside a reproducing unit, and the developing nip is formed by the latent image supporting surface of the photoreceptor. In this case, biased vibrating part 46 is provided with at least a first conductive electrode 62 and a first bias 64 that biases at least the first conductive electrode 62; and the first conductive electrode 62 is formed inside the vibrating part 46 so as to be adjacent to a layer 60, and controls the discharge of a vibrating toner from the donor member. A developing electrode part 48 comprises a pair of second conductive electrodes 66 and a second bias 68 thereto, and is arranged at least between the first conductive electrode 62 and the latent image supporting surface so as to intensify the discharge of toner particles from the donor member, and the powder cloud of toner is formed inside a developing nipple, so that a good quality image can be developed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the irregularity of an image edge and to reduce image noise. SOLUTION: The electrostatic latent images of three voltage levels are formed on a charge holding surface 10 electrified in an electrification station A in an exposure station B, and developed in different colors in the housings 32 and 34 of a developing station C. The charge holding surface is vibrated by acoustic transformers 39 and 46 provided on the downstream side of the housings 32 and 34. Thus, adhesion between toner and the charge holding surface is weakened and the toner similarly electrified is mutually repulsed. As a result, the toner which is ununiformly distributed and the toner which is not distributed finely at an edge part at the time of developing are corrected to be uniformly distributed in the boundary of the image at the part of the acoustic transformer.
