Abstract: A transition module adapted to accept copy sheet input from an input feeder short edge first and feed the copy sheets long edge first to the main paper path of a processing apparatus. The transition module includes a belt-on-belt transport (65,67) to move copy sheets into the transition module from, for example, the output of a third party feeder. The sheets are fed to the belt-on-belt transport (65,67) and driven against a registration edge (63). The belts are continuously running and provide enough drive force to move the sheets to the registration edge (63), but not enough to overdrive the sheets or cause buckling. Once each sheet is registered, double 'D' rolls (70-73) are activated for one revolution to pull the sheet from the belts (65,67) and feed it to an exit nip located downstream from the 'D' rolls (70-73).

Abstract: An apparatus in which a sheet (102) is registered during the movement thereof. The sheet is moved along a path in a forward direction of movement and a lateral direction of movement substantially normal thereto by means of skewed driving and idler rollers (90, 76). The lateral movement of the sheet causes the side edge of the sheet to engage a registration edge (88) so as to be aligned thereat. The drive roller (90) extends into the gap between spaced idler rollers (76) to form a bend (106) in the sheet. The magnitude of the moving force applied on the sheet is proportional to the extent of the bending which in turn depends on the thickness of the sheet. In this way, the moving force varies as a function of the thickness of the sheet with the sheet slipping laterally when engaging the registration edge to prevent buckling thereof.

Abstract: A collation system is disclosed for use with a very high speed, fully automated reproduction system having a document handling apparatus, copy sheet processor, and a finishing station. In this arrangement, a sorter bin array is arranged to collate the copy sheets into copy sets corresponding to a multiple page document, the array being held stationary for the collection of some of the copy sheets and is moved past a sheet-receiving station for receiving at least one of the copy sheets.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the number of positions of a sheet and positions of finish part by a user, being an operator, by moving a sheet position aligning member to a lateral direction sheet aligning position. SOLUTION: A position aligning device 20 is integrally formed with a second stapler unit (stapler) 18, to be made movable. The stapler 18 is integrally provided with a retracting lateral direction position aligning edge (edge) 22 performing position alignment of a sheet before a staple lock. The edge 22 performs position alignment in both sides in cooperation with a width squeezing mechanism 16. A position aligned by the edge 22 is changed in accordance with a size of the sheet and a desired second staple lock position. Thereafter, the stabler 18, after accumulating a sheet set, is moved by 1/4 sheet width for two-part lock, to be repositioned. When this positioning device is used, a hardware/software for the single stapler 18 is only required to be provided.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a system as locking a paper handling module, too heavy to be manually lifted, to a copying machine in removable configuration with a light force. SOLUTION: A copying machine 10 and a paper handling module 20 include paper feed ports respectively and respective paper feed ports are so arranged as being in parallel actionally so that paper feed may be achieved between both of them when the module 20 is locked to the copying machine 10 in their locking position. By only manually applying a small force vertically while exerting most of the weight of the module 20 to an automatic weight lift system 26 by attaching a spring, in vertically movable configuration, to at least one side surface of a module above a module transport system 30, an automatic weight lift 26 vertically lifts up at least one side surface of the module 20 a little, moves it in the direction to a locking position, and by releasing the manually applied vertical small force, the module 20 drops to be locked to the copying machine 10.
