    Abstract: A top vacuum corrugation feeder employs a vacuum feedhead working in conjunction with an air knife to feed sheets from the top of a stack. The feedhead is valveless and has a vacuum applied thereto during the entire feed cycle in order to increase reliability and decrease minimum feed speed. The top vacuum corrugation feeder includes fluffer jets and vectored auxiliary fluffer jets in order to assist the air knife in separating severely downcurled sheets for feeding.

    Abstract: A copier capable of producing simplex and duplex copies includes an inverter that has constantly rotating input and output rollers mounted for pivotal movement into and out of engagement with a reversibly rotatable sleeve that is mounted on a stationary shaft. When inversion of a sheet is required, a shiftable gate deflects the sheet into a nip formed between the input rollers and the rotatable sleeve. A sensor senses the trail edge of the sheet and through a controller causes a reversible drive motor to pivot the input rollers out of engagement with the sleeve while simultaneously placing the output rollers into driving engagement with the sleeve. The sheet is then driven by the output rollers out of the inverter and back into the paper path of the copier for further processing.

    Abstract: A primary coil (130) and a secondary coil (140) are situated in the ejector, which has a resiliently mounted movable piston (110) to eject fluid through a nozzle (122). A drive signal is applied to cause current to flow in the primary coil (130). The current flow generates a magnetic field that induces a current in the secondary coil (140). Either the primary coil (130) or the secondary coil (140) is associated with the piston (110) and the other is associated with a fixed structure (120) of the ejector. As a result, a magnetic force is generated that pushes the piston (110) either toward a nozzle plate (120) so that a drop is ejected through the nozzle (122) or away from the nozzle plate so that fluid fills the chamber. When the drive signal is turned off, the piston resiliently returns to its at-rest position, thereby either refilling the ejected fluid or ejecting a drop of fluid through the nozzle (122). In other embodiments, the nozzle plate is made of a magnetic material, or is coated with or connected to a magnetic material. Switching the direction of the current changes the magnetic force between attraction and repulsion and may be used positively to move the piston in both directions.

    Abstract: A variable sheet sized sheet feeder adapted to be reloaded while running in a dual tray mode. A dual tray sheet feeder having a sheet transport (121) to reload a stack of sheets from a holding station (104) to an active feed station (102) is provided. The dual tray design allows the holding station to be reloaded while the active tray is feeding thereby providing load while run capability. The feed tray is further provided with tray extensions (103) to allow the loading and feeding of oversized sheets within the same confines. Multiple sensors and movable stack guides (112,114) are provided to allow the transfer of the sheet stack from one tray to another and to report the status of each tray to the operator through a user interface.
