Abstract:
A composition utilized to prevent the deposit of overspray, the composition comprising, based on the total weight of the composition, (a) from about 1% to about 60% by weight a blend of dibasic esters; (b) from about 10% to about 75% by weight one or more surfactants; and (c) a thickener, and methods for use. The dibasic esters are be derived from a blend of adipic, glutaric, and succinic diacids, and, in one particular embodiment, the blend comprises dialkyl methylglutarate and at least one of dialkyl adipate and dialkyl ethylsuccinate, wherein the alkyl groups individually comprise a C1-C12 hydrocarbon group. The one or more surfactants are typically chosen from alcohol alkoxylate, an alkyl phenol ethoxylate, a terpene, a terpene alkoxylate or any derivates thereof. The thickener is typically one or a combination of polyacrylates, magnesium silicates, polyvinyl alcohol, fumed silicas, guar gum, guar gum derivatives, cellulose, and cellulose derivatives.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods of providing short-term protection to an automobile exterior. In one embodiment, the method comprises applying an aqueous film-forming automotive coating composition to an automobile exterior; drying the aqueous film-forming automotive coating composition at ambient conditions to form a protective coating that does not substantially alter the gloss or color of the automobile exterior; and removing the protective coating after a period of time post-application in a manner that does not result in damage to the automobile exterior and produces a biodegradable waste stream. A two component package is also provided, the package comprising an aqueous film-forming automotive coating composition comprising a film-forming polymer and a solvent; and an aqueous wash removal composition that is at least one of a surfactant wash, a solvent wash, a solvent surfactant wash, or a combination thereof. In another embodiment, a curable coating composition is applied and cured by natural sunlight.
Abstract:
A combination of (A) a nitrogen containing water soluble polymer, (B) a water insoluble film forming polymer, and (C) gas filled, polymer walled microballoons provides a superior thermally releasable coating that (i) can be conveniently and reliably coated from a water based solution and dispersion onto surfaces to be protected against painting, (ii) is reliably stable at ambient temperatures, (iii) even after being coated with many times its own thickness of accumulated paint particles, rapidly disintegrates, along with the accumulated paint coating formed on it, upon contact with hot water, into particles of a size that readily escapes from standard paint booth grate structures, (iv) detackifies any paint particles that escape during disintegration of the combined thermally releasable coating and paint residues accumulated thereon, and (v) disintegrates into particles that float on water, so that they can be readily removed from the grates by immersing the latter in hot water, allowing a few minutes for the disintegration to take effect, and then skimming off the floating solids on the surface of the water.
Abstract:
A water-soluble coating or other deposit is produced from a formulation that is comprised of a curable liquid substance and a dispersed, particulate effervescing agent. The formulation is particularly useful as a solder resist in the manufacture of PCBs, and the preferred composition contains n-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylacrylamide, and polyvinylpyrrolidone.
Abstract:
Abstract:

Abstract:
A process for facilitating the removal of undesired contamination from a surface, comprising the steps: a) applying a solution containing a polysaccharide and a solvent therefor onto said surface before it is subjected to contamination, said polysaccharide being capable of forming a redissolvable or swelling solid film upon drying; b) allowing the applied solution to dry to form a solid film on said surface; c) treating the coated surface with a liquid capable of redissolving the film or providing for swelling thereof; and d) removing the undesired contamination by removing the dissolved or swelled surface layer of the film.
