Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for operation of a railway branch line, which has line devices, in particular points, signals, axle counters, beacons and/or approach signaling devices, for specific functions. At least one first line device can be operated in an active mode and in a power-saving mode. In order to simplify the switching from the power-saving mode to the active mode, the active mode of the first line device is activated by a second line device when a rail vehicle moves over the second line device, possibly after a predetermined delay time has elapsed.
Abstract:
A system for detecting and classifying a wheel of a rail vehicle traveling on a railway track includes a plurality of wheel detectors coupled to one rail of the railway track and configured to detect presence of the wheel and to generate signals representative thereof. A processing system is coupled to the wheel detectors and configured to receive and process the signals. The processing system is configured to classify the wheel based on a speed independent classification value calculated based on the signals from the wheel detectors.
Abstract:
A rail-mounted, wheel-sensing system is shown having a wheel sensor and a rail mounting platform. The system includes a rugged steel rail clamp including two blocks mounted on the base of the rail by a pair of bolt extending under the rail. One block is connected to a vertically adjustable mounting bracket for carrying a sensor or other device. The mounting bracket includes a platform for the sensor. Two shields on the platform protecting a sensor mounted between them. An adapter plate may be added between the mounting bracket and the clamp for installation on lighter or heavier rails.
Abstract:
An apparatus is disclosed for adjusting the height of a monitor with respect to the rail head of a rail having a first bracket adapted to be connected to the rail and a secured bracket adapted to be connected to the monitor, the brackets are releasably connected to each other by a vertically movable slide arrangement comprising mating surfaces one of them having an elongate recess and the other having a complementary protrusion to prevent relative tilting or canting of the brackets.
Abstract:
An apparatus for detecting the presence and/or direction and/or velocity of a moving ferromagnetic element is provided. A sensing coil is placed in coupling relationship with a bi-stable ferromagnetic wire to provide a signal in response to a change in polarity of the core of the bi-stable wire. The core polarity changes in response to element presence as the element constitutes a magnetic shunt causing a change in magnetic flux density and/or direction in the air gap of a magnetic circuit in which the bi-stable wire is situated. The sensor is substantially insensitive to element velocity. Modified structures provide for fail-safe operation.
Abstract:
A warning system comprising an advanced preemption system is provided to provide warning of an additional advanced preemption time directly from a wayside inspector to a city traffic controller to turn one or more traffic lights red on a route intersecting with the railroad crossing. The advanced preemption system includes a first set of wireless magnetometers to be installed on a railway track of the railroad crossing on a first side of the railroad crossing. The first set of wireless magnetometers to be located at an advanced preemption crossing start activation point that is being at a distance before an existing crossing start activation point of the railroad crossing to provide the warning of the additional advanced preemption time.
Abstract:
A method for identifying a location of a wheel of a rail vehicle includes producing a first signal representative of a potential difference between leads electrically coupled with a wheel gate transducer and modifying the first signal that is received over a first channel to produce a second signal over a second channel, where the second signal differs from the first signal. The method further includes monitoring the first and second signals over the first and second channels to identify the location of the wheel relative to the wheel gate transducer.
