    Abstract: Un colorimètre visuel à synthèse additive comprenant une enceinte essentiellement opaque ayant des murs internes blancs diffusants, ladite enceinte ayant une fenêtre d'entrée pour recevoir la lumière d'une plage échantillon, une fenêtre carrée pour recevoir un filtre transparent et une fenêtre de sortie pour recevoir la lumière de ladite plage échantillon et dudit filtre, ladite fenêtre de sortie permettant à un observateur d'apercevoir la plage échantillon et le mur interne de l'enceinte entourant la fenêtre d'entrée. Le filtre comprend au moins quatre plages de couleurs, de forme carrée correspondant au corps de la fenêtre du filtre, lesdites plages de couleurs étant disposées de façon adjacente, au moins deux plages adjacentes étant de même couleur. Le filtre est éclairé uniformément à travers la fenêtre du filtre par une lumière essentiellement blanche, la lumière transmise par le filtre étant réfléchie sur les murs internes de l'enceinte afin de former une plage étalon. De plus, des moyens pour créer un déplacement relatif entre la fenêtre du filtre et le filtre selon les axes des carres sont prévus de façon à ce que ladite ouverture puisse se déplacer de part en part du filtre. Le colorimètre inclut de plus des moyens pour mesurer la proportion de transmission par chaque plage de couleur du filtre au travers la fenêtre du filtre pour une position relative prédéterminée entre ladite fenêtre du filtre et le filtre, de sorte que la fenêtre du filtre soit déplacée jusqu'à égalisation entre la couleur de la plage échantillon et celle de la plage étalon sur lesdits murs, le déplacement de ladite fenêtre étant déterminé par lesdits moyens de mesurer.

    Abstract: The color of a substantially spherical surface, such as that of a fruit, is measured by rotating the object about a vertical axis and projecting on the surface of the object, downwardly at 45 DEG , an area of light that extends from the zenith to the equator of the object and is generally spherical triangular in shape, but differs from a spherical triangle in that the arc length s of the circles of latitude falling between the boundaries of the illuminated area is related as follows to the arc length s 0 of the 45 DEG circle of latitude: s(x) = s0 (1 + tan x)WHERE X, WITH THE APPROPRIATE SIGN, IS THE DIFFERENCE IN ANGLE BETWEEN 45 DEG AND THE CENTRAL ANGLE OF THE CIRCLE OF LATITUDE PASSING THROUGH THE ILLUMINATED SURFACE. To measure color distribution, the same apparatus is used but only an area is illuminated which is sufficiently small to be regarded as planar and the selected area is manually rotated to underlie the light spot.

    Abstract: 1,252,470. Photo-electric colorimeters. NUCLEAR-CHICAGO CORP. Sept. 26, 1969 [Oct. 1, 1968], No.47411/69. Headings G1A and G1J. [Also in Division G3] A photo-electric colorimeter comprises an unscaled meter to which can be added one of a plurality of inter-changeable scales or dials, which when placed in position causes switching into circuit of a respective photo-cell, responsive to light of a particular wavelength range, so that the colorimeter may be used to investigate a liquid sample as regards the particular constituent for which the dial is designed. The colorimeter comprises a housing 20 with controls 14-18, a temperature controlled rack 32, 22 for samples awaiting test and a test well 31, 21. The temperature control circuit is illustrated in Fig. 10 (not shown) as is a transistorized timer circuit which lights an alarm lamp after a first period and sounds a loudspeaker after a second period warning the operator when the sample incubation period has expired. A typical scale or dial 40, has notches (43-46) Fig. 2 (not shown) in a unique combination arranged to actuate certain of members 73-76 on insertion and so switch into circuit a particular photo-cell 65-68. The dial comprises a transparent plate carrying the scale and is held by springs engaging notches 47. Alternatively to notches, conductive elements in particular configurations on the plate can switch in the photo-cells. In an alternative apparatus, a number of dial members may be inter-connected to form a continuous belt which is fed through an adapted slot. Insertion of a test vial 80 brings it between the ends of fibre optic light guides 55-58 and aligned photo-cells 65-68, individually responsive to particular wavelength ranges. The light guides have numbers of fibres appropriate to their respective photo-cells and are fed by a common lamp (51) via lens (52) and infrared absorbing filter (54), Fig. 8 (not shown). Supply circuitry for lamp and photo-cells is given in Fig. 10 (not shown). Calibration of each scale or dial is with a known sample by a potentiometer (16) so as to locate the indicator pointer 29 on a calibration mark usually centrally located on the scale. The test sample may be blood and a variety of tests for particular blood constituents are exemplified, together with details of the required wavelength response of the photo-cells for particular components.

    Abstract: The device for detecting pulsed laser radiation has at least a first and a second radiation detector and respectively a first and second filter connected upstream of the radiation detectors, the first filter and the second filters being respectively transparent in one or more narrow-band spectral region(s) of the laser radiation. The second filter is opaque in the spectral regions in which the first filter(s) is/are transparent, and transparent in narrow-band spectral regions closely adjacent thereto. The spectral regions for the transparency of the first and second filters each have approximately the same bandwidth. The light pulses from lasers can be distinguished from other light pulses by forming the difference between the intensity of radiation received by the second and by a first radiation detector (1, 2).

    Abstract: The invention relates to a colour-measuring instrument in which differently coloured (heterochromatic) separating filters (15) can be connected upstream of a light sensor (16) brought into the beam path of the light to be measured. In order to be able to work with identical, simple and inexpensive light-sensitive elements and with approximately the same amplifications (gains), the invention provides that a conical frustum (10-13) which focuses the incident light and is made from light-sensitive material and has its covering surface located at the tapering end is arranged upstream of each separating filter (15) and facing the latter. As a result, the size of the covering surface is approximately equal to the light-sensitive surface of the light sensor, and the basic area of the conical frustum (10-13) is selected to be larger the smaller the colour content to be filtered in the light to be measured and/or the lower the sensitivity of the light sensor (16) to the particular colour content.
