Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium comprises a nonmagnetic base, on which are formed an electron-cured magnetic resin layer containing dispersed ferromagnetic powder and an electron-cured resin backcoating. The present invention uses an electron-curable vinyl chloride resin having sulfur-containing polar group in combination with an electron-curable urethane resin having a phosphorus-containing polar group. In this way, the dispersion of ferromagnetic powder, surface flatness and electromagnetic conversion characteristics can be improved. Further, an error rate can be reduced in high density digital recording. Further, storage property is excellent.

Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support with at least one magnetic layer comprising a magnetizable pigment dispersed in a binder composition. The binder composition of the present invention comprises a block copolymer, having a hard segment, with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of greater than about 70°C, and a soft segment, having a Tg of less than about -30°C. The binder composition of the present invention has relatively stable physical properties over a range of temperatures, preferably at least 50°C and more preferably at least 100°C.
Abstract:
A composition containing CrO 2 and a polyester-polyurethane wherein the chain extender contains a mixture of 1,4-butanediol and 1,6-hexanediol; and use thereof especially in magnetic recording media.
Abstract:
® A rigid magnetic storage media coating composition using a high concentration of magnetic particles includes a dual thermoset binder system. The two polymers forming the dual binder system cure during mutually exclusive temperature ranges to form polymer networks that are interpenetrated and entangled. The thermoset polyurethane-melamine/ polyester polymer binder system possesses improved properties including the ability to retain liquid fluorinated polyether lubricant without spin-off. The addition of a small amount of silicone wax to the uncured coating composition enhances composition rheology during spin coating on a rigid substrate.

Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer consisting essentially of a binder and magnetic particles on one surface of a non-magnetic substrate. The thermoplastic polyurethane-urea resin in which unsaturated bonds sensitive to radiation are introduced is used as the binder. The thermoplastic polyurethane-urea resin in which the radiation-sensitive unsaturated bonds are introduced has both urethane and urea bonds in the molecular structure thereof. It is synthesized from long chain diol with a molecular weight of approximately 500 to 5000, a short chain diol with a molecular weight of approximately 50 to 500, an organic diisocyanate, an organic diamine, and a compound containing radiation-sensitive unsaturated double bonds, and cured by radiation. The thermoplastic polyurethane-urea resin in which not only the radiation-sensitive double bonds but also hydrophilic polar groups are introduced may also be used as the binder. These hydrophilic polar groups may for example include -S0 3 M, -OS0 3 M, -COOM, and
