Abstract:
A machine for processing sheets comprises a number of modules through which the sheets for processing pass in a serial manner, one after the other. The modules each comprise a sheet introduction interface and/or a sheet output interface, whereby for at least one of the modules the sheet introduction interface and/or the sheet output interface may be selectively coupled to sheet output interfaces or sheet introduction interfaces of at least two other modules.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for controlling a sample quality comprising a first inspection unit for detecting image data of the upper surface of a sample front face and an evaluation unit for estimating the sample quality on the base of detection results of the inspection unit. A second inspection unit makes it possible to detect the rear face of the sample and a third inspection unit makes it possible to expose the sample to a radiation.
Abstract:
A method is described for generating patterns representing a halftone image, said method comprising the generation of a first set of patterns (10) consisting of lines and curves dimensionally modulated so as to produce variations in tones reproducing the halftones of the image using an intaglio rendering technique. The method comprises the generation of a second set of patterns (20; 30) consisting of microstructures separate from the lines and curves of the first set of patterns, said microstructures being dimensionally modulated so as to produce variations in tones reproducing the halftones of the image. According to a first aspect of the invention, the microstructures consist of stochastic microstructures that can be likened to a grain. According to a second aspect of the invention, the microstructures consist of repetitive microstructures reproducing information that can be recognised by an observer, which repetitive microstructures comprise microletters and/or microsymbols. The second set of patterns is interlaced with the first set of patterns in such a way that the microstructures of the second set of patterns occupy the spaces between the lines and curves of the first set of patterns and so that the halftones reproduced by the second set of patterns supplement the halftones reproduced by the first set of patterns.
Abstract:
There is described a method for varnishing security documents, especially intaglio-printed security documents such as banknotes, wherein both sides of the security documents are covered by a protective varnish. The method comprises the step of applying a thicker layer of protective varnish on a side of the security documents which exhibits a greater surface roughness, especially the side which is opposite to the side of the security documents which was last printed by intaglio printing. Also described in a varnishing machine for carrying out the above method.
Abstract:
The ink-agitator (1) is supported and guided by fixed means between pedestals (2) and (3) above an ink fountain containing security ink. It is driven in alternate movement on its guiding means and its tip is dipping into the ink. Bore (11) receives a detector head in the form of a transformer with primary winding arranged for normally producing a 'zero' magnetic field, adjustable ferrite core place in such a manner that the 'zero' magnetic field is obtained for a standard magnetic property of the security ink, and secondary winding going out of balance and issuing a signal if the magnetic property of the ink into which the tip of the ink-agitator is displaced undergoes modifications. The output signal is transmitted to feed line (4) with slide contact (6) whereas the ground pole is connected through wire (5) and sliding contact (7).
