Abstract:
This invention provides a golf ball constituting or having a cover or coating consisting in whole or in part of a fluoropolymer. The fluoropolymer may be a perfluoropolymer that is sulfonated or carboxylated or a derivative thereof, and may comprise from 1 to 100 % of the cover. The fluoropolymer material may be blended with conventional golf ball cover or coating materials. This invention also describes a method of enhancing the cut resistance, abrasion resistance, and durability of a golf ball comprising the steps of: a) forming a golf ball core; and b) forming a cover around said core by either comrpession molding preformed half-shells of cover stock material comprising a fluoropolymer about said core or by injection molding cover stock material comprising a fluoropolymer about said core. Another method of enhancing the cut resistance, abrasion resistance, and durability of a golf ball in accordance with the present invention comprises coating the golf ball with a fluoropolymer material as described herein.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed towards golf balls comprising a core, a cover and a coating composition layer, wherein the coating composition layer comprises a fluorinated polyurethane. The novel fluorinated polyurethane coating composition of the present invention enhances a variety of properties such as enhanced abrasion, impact and weathering resistance as compared to golf balls with conventional coating composition. Additionally, the presently claimed fluorinated polyurethane coatings also decrease the coefficient of friction of the surface of the golf ball, resulting in a modification of the spin rate when struck with a golf club and superior cleaning characteristics.

The present invention is a putter comprising a putter head (12) having a striking face (4), a crown surface (5), a bore (6) in the crown surface (5), a connection pin (9) secured to the bore (6) of the putter head (12) through a mechanical connection, and a shaft (3) adhered to the putter bore (6) and the connection pin (9). Preferably, the bore (6) is comprised of a first section and a second section. The shaft (3) is adhered to the first section of the bore (6), and the connection pin (9) is secured to the second section of the bore.

A golf ball, a golf ball core and a method for making a golf ball and a golf ball core, using an admixture of polybutadiene, a zinc diacrylate cross-linker, and a calcium oxide that is substantially free of zinc oxide. When zinc oxide, typically used in golf ball cores, is eliminated or at least substantially reduced from a golf ball core composition, and calcium oxide is added, the golf balls and golf ball cores formed from such an admixture exhibit reduced PGA compression when compared to cores and balls containing zinc oxide, while maintaining the initial velocity of the standard higher compression cores and balls.

A golf ball cover composition comprising: a) from about 45 to 55 weight percent of a first high acid ionomer having an acid content of from about 19 weight percent, and b) from 55 to 45 weight percent of a second ionomer selected from the group consisting of: i) a second high acid ionomer having acid groups neutralized with a different metal ion than said first high acid ionomer, and ii) an ionomer containing less than about 16 weight percent acid groups. The ionomer golf ball cover composition is used to make multilayer golf balls, wherein the golf balls optionally comprise a core, a mantle layer, and an inner cover layer. Furthermore, the mantle layer and inner cover layer can be foamed.

This invention relates to novel shaded logos as shown in figure 1 for use on golf balls, golf balls having said novel shaded logo designs printed on their surface, and methods of adding shaded logos to golf balls. The logos or patterns incorporate a plurality of different colors, and/or a shading effect in all or part of the design as shown in figure 4. Pixel centers are placed equidistant from each other and/or the size of the pixels changes in a predetermined manner over an area comprising one or more regions of the logo. A grey scale randomized shading using bit map transformation is employed under computer programmed control as shown in figure 3.

Abstract:
This invention relates to methods of using cationic ionomers in golf ball cover compositions. Further, this invention relates to golf balls which have covers and cores and which incorporate urethane ionomers. The polyurethane golf ball cover has improved resiliency and initial velocity through the addition of an alkylating agent such as t-butyl chloride to introduce ionic interactions in the polyurethane and thereby produce cationic type ionomers.
