Abstract:
A spin coater that can be used to apply multiple coating compositions over an optical substrate, is described. The spin coater includes, a coater bowl configured to collect excess coating material expelled from an optical substrate being coated, a rotatable chuck configured to receive and rotate the optical substrate in the bowl during coating, a plurality of coating reservoirs, each containing a coating material, and an indexable coating reservoir platform containing the plurality of reservoirs and configured to index a selected reservoir into a dispensing position above the coater bowl. The spin coater can include or have associated therewith at least one curing station, in which each curing station is independently configured to cure at least partially at least one applied coating material. Each curing station can include at least one of a thermal curing station, a UV curing station, and/or an IR curing station.

Apparatus and methods for dispensing small beads of a viscous, mixed fluid material formed by first and second viscous fluids. The apparatus includes first (62) and second (64) metering rods for moving in a reciprocating manner, such that the first metering rod (62) extends into a first fluid passageway (52), and the second metering rod (64) extends into a second fluid passageway (54). A mixing passage (80) communicates with the first and second fluid passageways to receive the first and second viscous fluids from the first and second fluid passageways. A dispensing passageway (82) is in fluid communication with the mixing passage, and dispenses a small bead of viscous, mixed fluid material formed by the mixed first and second viscous fluids. A control (104) retracts the first and second metering rods to prevent drooling of the viscous, mixed fluid material from the dispensing passageway after a dispensing cycle.

A system of pointillist painting comprises an automated 3-D positioning system disposed proximate a painting surface, a colorant dispenser coupled to the gantry structure and having a dispensing tip in fluid communication with a colorant chamber, the gantry structure operable to move the colorant dispensing tip to a specified position of the painting surface, where the colorant dispenser is operable to apply a specified amount of a colorant to the painting surface and creating a dot having a two-dimensional coverage and three-dimensional profile at the specified position.

Device for the collection and recovery of materials in thin-film deposition facilities, characterized by elements (3) able to intercept the wasted fraction of materials in deposition processes. These elements are: disposed in individual modules (1, 5), possibly combined in multiple configurations according to the shape of the deposition chamber; swivel, depending on the material to be recovered, thanks to an electro-mechanical driver (4), mechanical transmission systems (6, 10, 15a, 15b), electronic interface (9) between the driver (4) and the software/panel control of the deposition process, so to automatize the rotation of the elements; removable; separable from the collected material. In particular, these elements can be palettes (3) placed vertically in each of the modules (1, 5), made of a composite material, characterized by a core of metallic material or alumina (both fit for Ultra High Vacuum conditions), and by two surface polymeric layers with low adhesion to the selected core and therefore easily removable, but at the same time resistant to the temperature-pressure conditions of the deposition chamber.

A method for dispensing a foamed material onto a substrate surface, comprising the steps: generating a relative movement between the substrate surface to be coated and an exit opening of a material dispensing apparatus, mixing at least two material components in a mixing device to provide a free-flowing, foamable dispensing material, generating a pressure differential between the mixing device and the dispensing region located downstream in the direction of flow from a discharge cross-section of the exit opening, conveying the dispensing material from the mixing device for the dispensing material to the exit opening, and discharging the dispensing material from the exit opening onto the substrate surface. The invention proposes that the dispensing material be kept under such a pressure in the adjacent region upstream from the discharge cross-section of the exit opening that the dispensing material in this region has a foaming rate that is less than 10% of the foaming rate which ensues at the end of the foaming process.

A two-component resin or adhesive dispensing system (10) including an air drive motor (44) with adjustable settings which drives, by means of sprocket (54) and chain drive (62) systems, an activator metering pump (18) and an adhesive metering pump (20) as to provide a dispenser (12) with adjustable amounts of activator material and adhesive material. The metering pumps are mounted upon adjustably movable mounting brackets (46,48,50) such that their relative disposition may be readily altered so as to accommodate different sized sprocket members (54) which will then alter the drive output of the metering pumps in order to change the ratio of activator material dispensed with respect to the amount of resin or adhesive material dispensed.
