    Abstract: A liquid crystal display comprising an STN liquid crystal cell (16) positioned at the center and sealing and holding a nematic liquid crystal (6), twist-aligned at 180-270 DEG , between a first substrate (1) having a first electrode (3) and a second substrate (2) having a second electrode (4), a phase plate (13) and an absorption type polarizer plate (8) provided in that order on the outside of the second substrate (2) and a reflection type polarizer plate (10) and a light absorption member (11) provided in that order on the outside of the first substrate (1). With this construction, the display can produce a metallic silver background by the light reflected off the reflection type polarizer plate (10), and black and color images by the light transmitting the reflection type polarizer plate (10) and absorbed by the light absorption member (11) or reflected in only light components of particular colors.

    Abstract: A display panel and a display device are provided. The display panel includes a color-film substrate, an array substrate, a liquid-crystal layer, and a backlight module configured to provide collimated lights. The display panel includes multiple pixel units. The color-film substrate corresponding to each pixel unit has a first transmission region which transmits lights and a first non-transmission region which does not transmit lights. The array substrate corresponding to each pixel unit has a second transmission region which transmits lights and a second non-transmission region which does not transmit lights. An orthographic projection of the first non-transmission region on the array substrate completely covers the second transmission region. When the pixel unit works in a non-transmission mode, the liquid-crystal layer corresponding to the pixel unit is configured to transmit the collimated lights, and the first non-transmission region is configured to prevent the collimated lights from exiting from the color-film substrate.

    Abstract: A cholesteric liquid crystal (LC) composite display device includes a light absorbing substrate, a first and second transparent substrates, a light supplement module arranged between the light absorbing substrate and the first transparent substrate, a control module, a first and second electrode layers respectively formed on the first and second transparent substrates, a first cholesteric LC layer sandwiched between the first and second electrode layers, and a first light absorbing layer disposed on the second transparent substrate. The projection of the first light absorbing layer on the horizontal plane and the projection of the light supplement module on the horizontal plane are arranged in a misaligned manner. The control module is provided for controlling the light supplement module according to the brightness signal. Thereby, when the external brightness is low, the light supplement module enhances the displaying brightness of the cholesteric LC composite display device to meet the usage requirements.

    Abstract: A light guide structure for a backlight module is provided. A light source of the backlight module emits a light beam. The light beam is guided by the light guide structure. The light guide structure includes a plate body and a light-shielding layer. The plate body includes a light-transmissible plate, a light-guiding plate and a reflecting plate. The light-guiding plate has a lateral surface. The light-transmissible plate has a light-transmissible plate lateral surface. The reflecting plate has a reflecting plate lateral surface. The lateral surface of the light-guiding plate, the light-transmissible plate lateral surface and the reflecting plate lateral surface are collaboratively formed as a plate body lateral surface. The plate body lateral surface is covered by the light-shielding layer. The light beam from the light source is blocked by the light-shielding layer.
